Business Degree and Upper Level transfer credits
#1
The title says it all. I’ve heard that Excelsior is difficult to map to, which courses can I take on Sophia/Saylor that transfer as upper level before I move on to Study.com? Trying to transfer in 113 credits and graduate after one semester. Thank you in advance!

Saylor states that Principles of Finance is upper level credit. Is this true for Excelsior? I plan to include it for my finance concentration.

Wow, I guess that means we're down to the Big Two?? And COSC has had very limited third-party transfers for the past three years. Although, given the new interpretation of once-per-student residency requirement at UMPI, can they take EU's spot on a technicality?

So, basically, they said they are requiring that 15 credits must be from Excelsior? It's important to nail down the exact new requirement.

It's still half the residency requirement of UMPI, and most other schools, although taking 30 credits from UMPI (and maybe other competency based schools) is much cheaper and faster than 15 from Excelsior.

And does this apply alike to every Excelsior bachelor's?

Ouch! $510 per credit! Plus $68 in fees per credit. $125 graduation fee. $300 to have transfer credit evaluated after you're enrolled.

UMPI is $1700 per 8 weeks and you can complete as many classes as you can. No additional fees. No graduation fee. No transfer credit evaluation fee. It's also a state university. And you'll complete way more assignments and exams at EU over UMPI. Some of the syllabi and yikes.

Yes, 15 credits through Excelsior. So it is still doable, but it’s not as advantageous.

Would you please relay the entire conversation, as close to the actual wording as possible? We've had misinformation here before because either someone misunderstood what was said, or an individual advisor simply gave incorrect information.

If this is an official policy change, it should be documented in writing somewhere.

I was speaking with an admissions advisor Erica Rizzuto, I briefly mentioned transferring 113 credits so only the Cornerstone, Info lit, and Capstone were remaining (Just as a verification). She then mentioned that due to new policies from their "partners", Excelsior now requires 15 credits to be done through them(new policies effetive 1/1/2025). I am going for Business with a concentration on Finance. It may be program specific so the LA degree may be unaffected by this. I didn't ask about that.

Rreally unsure why the abrupt change in policy. This is putting me 2 months behind my expected graduation date. I already have all but 1 upper level course done and was about to send in my transcripts. Now I guess I'll do some electives with them to waste some money... lol.

I assume this will definitely put a damper in their enrollment, at least for people like us who intend to transfer in most if not all of our credits.

Okay, so I just called again and asked for a bit more information. The new requirement is for anyone who has done 2 or more courses with their partners. That means if you have done two or more courses with Saylor, Study, or Sophia you have to do 15 total credits through them. If you are transferring in credits from other institutions and do not have any credits like that, the requirement is still 113.
