Brown Mackie credits

Does anyone know of a college that accepts Brown Mackie credits/Brown Mackie associates degree? A friend has associates and wants a bachelor's degree (business or healthcare management)

Looks like they were a private for profit NA school until they lost their accreditation. Might be a struggle to get those credits to transfer. The more important question is how much do they have to spend on a degree and how quickly do they want it? Sometimes starting over is better than trying to force your previous credits into a degree.

Brown Mackie was owned by EDMC, which was one of the four or five largest "For Profit Education" corporations in the US. Wow, time flies, they filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy in 2016. They were ACICS accredited then, if that was when your friend received their associates, you can try and see if Excelsior, Walden, WGU (among others that accept NA credits) will take in the courses for credit towards a program from them, Excelsior may be the best bet as you just need 7 residency credits from them to finish a degree. Agreed, sometimes it is easiest and fastest to just start over. If your friend is good with writing assignments, for instance, it's possible to get a degree at UMPI for under $5k total. On the other hand, using the degree at Excelsior could wind up costing thousands more in tuition (for the school itself and alternate credits) & fees.

I would certainly never tell someone to start from scratch when you haven't even tried any alternatives. 60+ credits is a lot to just throw away before checking the alternatives.

If your friend will post their credits, we can tell you if it's easier to start over, or try to get them to a school that accepts NA.

List them by course #, full course name, # of credits, grade
*include pertinent info like "lab science course" or "developmental" or whatever

If your friend went to any other schools, break it out by school (original credit earned).

Note 1: in spite of Brown Mackie's rep, he has had a very successful career as a biomed tech and currently runs the biomed dept at the hospital he is at. Would like to officially become the Biomed Manager (pay increase/salaried position) as he already does the job without the title - requires a four-year degree. 

Note 2: learns/works best in shorter 8-week classes or self-paced/competency. He gets overwhelmed/self-doubt with full, semester-long classes. faster and cheaper is better, but work will reimburse $2500

This is kind of perfect for UMPI or possibly WGU. The others have at least two classes that are longer than 8 weeks: capstone & cornerstone. Also, despite NA status, I would suggest applying to UMPI and sending in the Brown Mackie credits. Worst UMPI can do is say no. But they have accepted a handful of NA credits in the past. They might accept these. They might not.

If UMPI does accept the credits, defer enrollment for a session or two until all/most of the GEC requirements have been met with Sophia/SDC.

Was it awarded as an 'Associate of Applied Science' (AAS) or Associate of Science (AS)? I missed that you posted it was an AAS If UMPI accepts the credits, the difference could allow different bachelor options with them (they have a BAS for those with an AAS, which allows for more flexible use of credits).  Also when you apply to UMPI you want to apply to one of their YourPace programs  https://online.umpi.edu/degrees/undergraduate/ -  I would recommend the 'BLS in Management' when you apply, it would have more room for miscellaneous credits than the BABA. Again, if they take the credits you should be able switch to a BAS-Management (vs BLS - imo, it just reads better if given the option - thread on that: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...ers-vs-BLS)

If they don't accept them, then I'd try Excelsior before starting from scratch. With that said, the UMPI out of pocket cost would be very minimal after the company $2500 even if you did start from scratch (if starting from scratch the the BABA might be a better option for the degree choice)

Hmm, I would recommend the reverse, it'll be closest to "free" with the $2500 reimbursement. My suggestion is Excelsior first, you can complete the cornerstone and info lit course in 1 8 week session and complete the capstone in another, total would cost your friend $4000 at Excelsior, if you split it up in two years (2022 and 2023, it's FREE). I would chose UMPI second, if your friend is in an absolute rush, they can finish this year for $2800 and that is ONLY if they accept the NA credits... In fact, apply to both, it's free...

Was the degree completed while the school was accredited? This is important. They lost their accreditation before they closed.
