I'm new at all of this and have just completed 24 credits on Sophia. I understand for Biology w/Lab, many people are taking it at Study.com. I signed up for it, but going through all of the info I'm bit apprehensive. How does the final work with a procter? Is it not open book like Sophia classes? Any info you can share would be appreciated.
The proctor just watches while you take the exam. Not a big deal. The exam is not open book like Sophia. If you already have completed a lab science at a college, then you don't need the bio w/ lab at study.com. I transferred in a lab science from a community college I took years ago no problem.

No, SDC is not open book like Sophia. It's a recorded proctor, which means that you download a bit of software that will record your screen and your webcam while you take the exam. You need to get 100% on the quizzes within the first 3 attempts. Most students seem to get 70-90% on the labs. If you do that, you'll only need to get 21-41% on the exam to pass. If you manage to get 100% on the labs AND the quizzes, you'd only need 11% on the final exam to pass.

Do you have an action plan and a degree spreadsheet? Which degree/school are you thinking of attending? My guess is that you're going with UMPI? I'm not sure why you need to rush off to Study.com while you're still working on your Sophia.org courses. Don't pay for a monthly membership at TWO providers, do one at a time.
My suggestion is to continue getting more credits for your degree, especially lower level credits and general education requirements. Get a second monitor if you don't have one already. I would then start working on InstantCertCredit for the Spanish I course (unless you decide to do the BIO W/Lab and Spanish I at Study.com).
For Study.com courses, they're all non proctored until the final exam, the exam is recorded for review later, the labs are virtual (no special kits needed for delivery by shipping, which I highly recommend over StraighterLine Labs for example). Don't sweat it, just work on each and every section of the course, no need to rush...

Yes, actually you all helped me realize UMPI would be a better option than Charter Oak. I had posted under that forum earlier:
"Looking to do get a simple/inexpensive degree for my own personal accomplishment. Would like to do it online and cheaply. No previous college experience.
From what I've read I can use Sophia and CLEP exams. COSC's website just says to Gen ED studies required, but which ones? Does it matter? Just looking for to put a plan in place."
So I started the Sophia classes 10/4 and this is what I have completed:
Conflict Resolution
Human Biology
Visual Communications
Intro to Psychology
Intro to Ethics
Ancient Greek Phiosophers
Microeconimics
Macroeconimics
Intro to Sociology

Yes, you're going in the right direction. Complete all the Sophia.org courses that will go towards COSC/UMPI, hold off on the English I & II, foundation courses, until you decide on the school. I would suggest COSC/UMPI for cost, if you have commitments, lots to do on your plate - go COSC, if you aren't working, no commitments - go UMPI. I would review this link, it'll show which courses hits both schools: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/So...lency_List
Oh, and get a second monitor if you don't have one already, I love using it for multi-tasking! Having the pdf/online materials with one screen and taking the quizzes on the other screen for the open book quizzes are great. I may have just repeated what I mentioned in your previous thread: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...#pid348678

Yes, I will definitely use a second monitor! By looking at the UMPI list for Sophia accepted transfers, apparently I have to take everyone course to get to 81 credits and then SDC for Biology wi/Lab. I will wait and take the English Comp classes at UMPI. I do live in Connecticut, but I like the flexibility of UMPI.
If you take every course at Sophia, you'll be at more than 90 credits and a lot of them won't be "usable" because your electives will already be filled or you'll have two Humanities courses and you only need one. Personally, I think that taking as much as possible is or can be worth it anyway, but if you want to save an extra month or so of work then you definitely need to be more selective regarding what you take.
Don't take Sophia's English Comp at all, unless you suddenly swing back to wanting to go to COSC. Just take it at UMPI, even if it means fewer credits to transfer. It'll be faster and easier.

I am doing the BLS with the management minor, which I think is the easiest to get with the most Sophia courses. I am attaching a list of courses that I transferred from Sophia. I hope it helps. I definitely do not recommend you to take English composition I and II at Sophia, Unless you are great at writing. You will also need American Government from Instantcert. Biology with lab from Study.com, and you can also do Spanish one with them since you get 2 courses in the deal for the price of one.
