BS in Psychology - Cheap and Fast (and dirty)
#21
Sananton how would I find out how many CLEPS and DSST and stuff they will take? That's what I meant sorry. And wouldn't I need to get them done at one of the big 3? I looked at CLEPS website and it doesnt offer psychology except general for WSU.

I just told you. They don't have a limit, but this could vary by department. Did you read the webpage I linked to?

CLEP is owned by the College Board; DSST is owned by Prometric. They're ACE-recommended for college credit; they have no official connection to the Big 3. Thousands of colleges award credit for these tests.

You take these tests at a local college or university that offers them. You can search for locations on their websites. While at the testing center, you can have 5he scores sent to a college of your choice for free. You just need to have the school code with you. If you need to send score reports to more schools, you have to order and pay.

Many people on this forum who have gotten degrees from the Big 3 and WGU have been accepted into selective master's degree programs all across the country. The main issue I think most people fall into where they have a problem from getting a degree from one of these schools is that they don't have a lot of graded credits, which can easily be overcome by taking traditional/online courses at RA schools.

I am a bit confused. After reading WSU agreement for CLEP classes and on the CLEP website what I can test out on from CLEP for psychology at WSU IS ONLY general Pychology.
Can I not just go to ANY college that offers MORE THAN general psychology to test out at, take the test out there, and have those transfer? Thank you all for your patience! Looking forward to respectful answers!

At testing centers, you can usually take whatever test you want regardless of whether that school will award credit. Many schools do not accept all CLEP tests. Going to a second school is not going to make the first school accept a test it already says it doesn't accept. As clearly displayed by the link in my last post, WSU accepts two of the three psychology CLEP tests: Introductory Psychology and Human Growth and Development. They appear not to accept Introduction to Educational Psychology, or they accidentally left it off. You can always call or email them and ask. Going to a school that accepts Introduction to Educational Psychology is not going to make WSU accept it.

1. Where you take the test has no bearing on where it will be accepted. I've taken many CLEPs at a school I have no connection to. You just use their testing center and then can have the CLEPs applied at any school that accepts them.

2. You can't transfer CLEP credits from one school to another. You can only transfer directly from CLEP to a school that accepts that specific CLEP

Maybe a real life example will help.

I enrolled at TESU (formerly TESC) in 2011. TESU is in New Jersey; I live in Texas. Therefore, I could not take CLEPs and DSSTs at TESU. I took the tests at Our Lady of the Lake University, Wayland Baptist University, and Devry University. I was never a student at any of those schools. I was never enrolled at any of those schools. Some schools will only let their students use their testing center, but these three schools I found near me allowed anyone to take tests at their testing centers.

I took most of my tests at Wayland Baptist University. I don't even think that Wayland Baptist accepts every CLEP and DSST, but they still let people take the tests they would not accept. Most of the time, I would enter TESU's school code so that my scores would be sent to them. However, with my first two tests, I was not enrolled at TESU and had my scores sent to San Antonio College. When I transferred to TESU, TESU would not give me credits for the CLEPs off of the San Antonio College transcript. I had to pay $20 or $30 for CLEP to send my scores directly to TESU.

A few years later, I was awarded eight credits for the biology CLEP at Central Texas College. Of course, even though TESU had my Central Texas College transcript, I still had to send my CLEP scores directly to TESU to receive credit for biology. Even though Central Texas College gave me eight credits for the CLEP, TESU only gave me six credits because that is TESU's policy. TESU does not care about other schools' policies.

Okay I am getting it... I think. Thanks.
Now can someone link me all the types of test other then CLEP. I don’t technically want to follow a guideline of quizzes and almost online like studying to accheve a credit ( like study.com). I just want to test out.
Also, What is the difference between going through a CLEP like thing and just going to a college and saying “ I want to test out of this class”. Thanks!

Undergrand means nothing to me in where I get it, but being approved for a good masters or PhD program does.  I keep on hearing not many gradschools take these online ba schools mentioned in this thread. I keep on hearing that.

I'm not sure where you keep hearing that, but it isn't true. At least not definitively. There are plenty of people who have graduated from one of the big 3 and then gone on to Ivy League schools or other highly competitive masters programs. When you say "these online ba schools" you may also be confusing nationally accredited online schools with TESU, COSC, and Excelsior which have superior accreditation.

A competitive admissions program at a school means its hard for everyone to get in. As long as your degree is regionally accredited you still meet the credentialing requirement. You can have an issue when you test out of courses since you don't earn a letter grade and some schools want to see a GPA. But there are also highly regarded schools that don't provide letter grades too. In those cases, its more about how well you do on your admissions tests, application essay, resume review, or whatever else they may ask for; basically, it is about how well you demonstrate that you're a good fit for their program.

If there is a specific masters program you want to get into, the best plan is to look at their admissions requirement and build your degree plan around that. For example, if they want to see a certain number of graded credits, or want graded credits for specific classes, then make sure you take some courses directly from an RA college or university in addition to testing out of the GenEds and such.

That will vary depending on your chosen college. Your college may only accept some types of alternative credits. Here are some of the options:
-AP tests(usually just available to highschool students but sometimes, adults can take them)
-CLEP
-DSST
-TECEPs
-csu global CBEs
-Uexcel/Excelsior college exams
-ACE and NCCRS sources(Saylor, Davar, some others)

Some colleges have their own challenge exams that let you test out of some classes. You'd have to check with your chosen college if they have this option.

Also, I agree with Merlin, many have graduated from the big 3 or other accredited online colleges and gone on to graduate programs just fine, even some highly competitive/prestigious programs. The first key is to make sure you meet the admissions requirements, whether that means having the right GPA on certain graded courses or taking in person lab science courses. The second key is having a competitive application. This may involve having a high GPA or GRE score, or it may also involve other factors such as having letters of recommendation, a good admissions application essay, years of relevant work experience, etc.
