That right there is a significant difference. I think this was a great post to share as I had not seen the BAS mentioned before; and it it doesn't even show as an option on their site ( https://online.umpi.edu/programs). Are the minors all the same options are their BLS listed?
I agree with bjcheung77 that if given a choice a 'Bachelor of Applied Science' (BAS) sounds/reads better than the 'Bachelor of Liberal Studies' (BLS) - but as stated that is just a matter of opinion. Thank you for sharing this, I know a few people that might be interested in this path towards a degree.

Technically the BAS is an on campus degree. It's not available in YourPace technically. Bachelor of Applied Science kind of sounds like a kicked up Associate of Applied Science. Liberal arts/studies goes pretty far in many careers. People know exactly what that is...applied science not as much. If one is planning on going to grad school it doesn't really matter what your undergrad is quite often.

This.
One can't directly apply for BAS via YourPace. It is kind of loophole thing. So you apply for BLS and than BSL-to-BAS switch has to be approved by your academic adviser. It is not an automatic process.

Yes, YourPace minors are available for BAS. If you want to get other minors you must switch to a traditional program.

Thankfully, if you want a BAS at UMPI, you can earn an AAS pretty easily through Pierpont!

I've graduated with BOG AAS this May and so I talked to Jessica and she confirmed that I am eligible to switch to BAS. I am waiting for an updated evaluation report now.
These are links with program requirements for BLS and BAS degrees:
https://www.umpi.edu/files/academics/pro...es_BLS.pdf
https://www.umpi.edu/files/academics/pro...ce_BAS.pdf
Note: these pdfs are posted on the main website, so listed requirements might not be exactly accurate. As it was many times discussed, curriculum for YourPace students is not necessarily equivalent to the curricula for on-campus and online programs. Interesting. I wonder what classes (what subjects)qualify for the “40 credits in a technical field”

As Pierpont degree is somewhat weird, its "technical field" is "Board of Governors".

So interesting to see that so many here are leaning towards an AAS. I was checking the requirement to to be admitted at NWCUlaw and the only degree that they do not take is the AAS.
This is what the have to say about it:
"Unlike the Associate of Arts degree and the Associate of Science degree, the Associate in Applied Arts degree and the Associate in Applied Science degree are considered vocational degrees and do not satisfy the California Bar’s eligibility requirements."

Just a clarification. The BLS requires 24 UL credits outside of the minors. No matter how many UL's are required in the minor, you still need 24 UL credits besides those. Many UL credits are easy at UMPI. It's not a challenge to find them like completing a degree at other schools.

1) Well, many of forum members got AAS from Pierpont for free by transferring 100% of credits required for degree. You can't beat free.
2) I can't speak for others as we all have different educational goals and come from different backgrounds... but I personally couldn't care less about what some random law school thinks about AAS degrees.
UPD. Ah, I actually spent like 30 seconds googling what NWCUlaw is. I am pretty confident now that AAS holders who have no intention to practice law specifically in California won't care about that school's requirements either.
I would also like to highlight that AAS is not designed to be a transfer degree, thus the limited utility.
