Associate Degree COSC

Does anyone have a great plan for an inexpensive associate’s degree at COSC?  Maybe using current free Sophia, TEEX, FEMA, onlinedegree.com, etc.?  Dad in family needs plan but will likely not want to do CLEP or DSST (though plans like that would be great for daughters).  Thanks in advance!!

Start today w/ GE at SOPHIA, next do the others at SOPHIA. Skip FEMA.

English Comp I & II (WRITTEN COMMUNICATION)
Public Speaking (ORAL COMMUNICATION)
Intro to Ethics (ETHICAL DECISION-MAKING)
US History I or II (US HISTORY/GOVERNMENT)
Religion (GLOBAL UNDERSTANDING and NON-US HISTORY OR CULTURE)
Art History I or II or Visual Communication (LITERATURE & FINE ARTS)
Psych, Sociology, Microecon or Macroecon (SOCIAL/BEHAVIORAL SCIENCE)
College Algebra or Statistics (MATHEMATICS)
Environmental Science (NATURAL SCIENCES W/O LAB)

Then go back and take anything else you can fit in before the free deal goes away.

You should do your lab science at Study.com (BIO101L) because it's the cheapest option.

Agreed. This thread is incredibly helpful. I am helping my mother complete her associate's degree at this time. (She's 51; it's never too late to get a degree!) She has a certificate of completion in Forensic Science. 

We have chosen the Sophia/COSC route. Thanks for the guidance!

My suggestion for anyone starting an Associates degree at COSC (or any partner of Sophia) to start with the following courses as they expire in a month April 30 and in June 30. US History I (April 30), US History II and Public Speaking (June 30). You can then follow the path dfrecore mentioned above. You'll be missing just two courses for the Associates as the Cornerstone is required by COSC!

1) the two "missing" courses are actually BIO101L and the cornerstone?
2) I suppose the "and" has been put there on purpose. If so, does Religion fulfill both the subjects, sort of "one shot two kills"? I guess one would need to add 3 credits in Electives to settle the score..
Any explanation would be greatly appreciated.

I noticed that you altered my prior post.

So, I don't like you having put it this way, as it makes it seem as if you need that many credits in each area.  You don't - you only need 1 course in each area.  If people WANT to take additional courses, then they can, but if you make sure that they take the 1 course they need for each section, that makes the most of Sophia.  For example, if they were to do it the way you've listed it, and only had enough time to complete 10 courses, they might not get through all of the areas, and then will have to go back and figure out how else to get requirements done.  My version was much easier to understand in checking all of the boxes required.

So for anyone reading this post, try to do it my way - ONE course per area (except English Comp), and then add more courses in if you can after you've checked the boxes.  You will be much happier to have done it that way.

1) Sophia doesn't have a lab science course, which is required at COSC.  So, you will want to get that via Study.com, SL, or whatever you can find.

2) At COSC, a single course can kill 2 (or more) birds with 1 stone. A course can check off multiple boxes.  Once you've checked all the boxes, you then need to make sure that at least 30cr are liberal arts, and that you have 60cr total. (I think A&I Literature checks off the GLOBAL UNDERSTANDING, NON-US HISTORY OR CULTURE AND LITERATURE & FINE ARTS).

3) The cornerstone must be taken at COSC.
