Analyzing and Interpreting Literature
#1
I am taking the A&I Lit clep tomorrow and am extremely nervous. I heard it was pretty tough. I did not see a practice test on the website for that clep. Is there one and I have just failed to see it? Any suggestions for preparation to this clep would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Lauren,

Please check out this thread about the A&I Lit exam:

http://www.degreeforum.net/specific-exam...-clep.html

It should answer most of your questions. Happy Testing! Smile

P.S. InstantCert does not offer test prep for this exam. The REA study guide as well as Petersons (Search for Colleges and Universities, Graduate Schools, Online Degree, Private Schools - Peterson's) do contain practice tests for A&I Lit.

Hi! Lauren,

The practice exams mainly help you by allowing you to experience what the actual exam will potentially be like (timed environment, etc). Because random passages are chosen to analyze, the A&I Lit CLEP is one that is difficult to "study" for. However, you can go over literary terms and devices and, if you want to take a practice exam, Peterson's offers them. You get 3 on-line practice exams for $20.

Good Luck!

Two recent threads for free Peterson’s online practice tests (CLEP/DSST+ebook):

The threads I posted above can be used by civilians to access Peterson’s practice tests.

Hope this helps! Best wishes on your exam!

This test wasn't that bad - in fact, I thought it was one of the easier ones. Don't be nervous or worry about it. As long as you take your time to think over what the passages are saying it's fine. A suggestion, for this test, try forming your own answer BEFORE looking at the answer choices. That way, your brain won't be swayed into the first one you read (and you can pick the one that best agrees with your choice).

Also, if you're taking the test on the computer (which I'd assume would be the case), you can take the test center scratch paper, hold it against the computer monitor right beside the answer options, and on the paper, mark off which answers are definately not right to eliminate the wrong ones (I just figured that idea out while I was testing today)

Great idea! Thanks for sharing.

The biggest thing about this test, IMO, is to not panic. I had to relax and take a few deep breaths more than on time. I had about 12 answers left with only 2 minutes to go. I quickly went through and eliminated some of the answers that were clearly not correct and guessed at the remaining answers out of the leftover possible selections. Using this method you have a 50/50 chance of getting them right.

Also, some if the poems may seem harder than others. I just skipped a few and then went back at the end. I decided that if I was going to run out of time I should do my best to get the ones that I worked at least 70%, or better, correct and the remaining guesses on the other problems at least 30% correct on pure chance. I think that my formula worked great, but that's just me. I'm not the fastest reader on earth. Plus I get a little tense when taking tests.

When I hit enter I really was not sure if I was right or not.

Thanks for all of your help. I have the CollegeBoard Clep book and the REA book for this specific subject so, I will just continue to take those practice exams. It mostly seems like, either you get it, or you don't. There isn't really much to memorize. My only concern now is the amount of time you have to finish. I have been spending a lot of time analyzing each question. Thanks again!

Know your literary terms these will help. I found it best to first go through read the easier passages and answer the questions then go back to the more tedious ones. If you are doing ok with the practice test you should be fine.

Good Luck
