Am I going to be able to take any of these via ALEKS or Straighterline?
#1
I noticed that the following courses (needed specifically for a Business degree) are more...hmmm..specialized? Are these things I can earn credit for via ALEKS or SL? I see that they both have a bunch of tests, but I am wondering if the names will appear differently on those websites.

Additionally, if I am to go for BSBA, General Management it seems like there are plenty of options for testing out.

Why does it feel like some people are earning their BSBA in just 8-10 months and my goal of December 2011 seems unrealistic? Sad I have 72 potential transfer credits, but I think I'll be looking at only around 50 of them being accepted if I take the BSBA route. Any recommendations on which classes I knock out first? I was leaning toward BSBA, Accounting, but was highly advised not to go for Accounting as I don't have previous experience. General Management was suggested to me and I am completely ok with a concentration in that Smile.

If you look on the SL or ALEKs website you can find a list of the courses they offer. If the course you are inquiring about is not on that list, then no.

So they would essentially have the same exact name then, right? I was asking because I saw things that had similar names and thought that perhaps it was the same class, but a different course title.

It seems unrealistic because you've been here a month, you can't decide on a degree plan and you haven't earned any credits. You have made a lot of posts but unfortunately neither ACE not the Big 3 grant credit for that. Wink

Of the classes you've listed, you can take the accountings through SL. I had the same requirements and took SL Accounting I and II. Principles of management and marketing along with Intro to computers are three of the easier tests out there, so I would think you would do a lot less work by testing even if SL had those options. Principles of Finance was the test that I struggled most with, but I do have some study guides if you need them. I can't help with Business Policy or Business in Society. I'm sure that there is a testing equivalent, but as a COSC student, I'm not sure what it would be.

Regarding your question about how people get through their bachelors so quickly. For me it was a matter of having a plan and setting dates to the plan. I put my degree plan in the spreadsheet and each test had a date next to it. I would also call ahead to schedule tests so that I would have a commitment set in stone. I really think that if I hadn't been very adamant about date-setting, I would have probably taken a couple of years to do this.
I got pretty strict about my calendar there towards the end. I did 30 credits in just over a month at the very end.

That being said, I would never have been able to start off with 30 credits in a month using only 3 credit tests like I did in Jan-Feb, I definitely started off much slower and then got the hang of my study habits, what worked best for me, and just getting the hang of CLEP/DSST. So even though it will end up taking just under a year to get my bachelor's, the vast majority of the work was done in about three to four months.

Thanks so much. I guess most of it is waiting to hear back from the TESC advisors as well. I think I will make a spreadsheet for the BSBA and the BA and compare. Thanks a lot

I'm having trouble deciding on a degree because I'm not sure how many online classes I will have to take for either one and I'm weighing out the financial aspect of it because I'm the only one working in my household as of now. Too bad posts don't count as credits.....:willynilly:

I think I'm going to get started on the stuff that was highlighted for me in red and touch base with my advisors about specifics. I guess I'm being impatient. Thanks Geezer. BTW did I tell you I feel like you're my forum Grandpa? I mean that in the nicest way possible. My Grandpa is very blunt, but helpful and I think the name Geezer kind of makes me think of someone that is Grandpa age. hilarious
