After 6 long years, I'M DONE!!!
#1
Finally, my turn to shout, "I'M DONE!" As of yesterday, I finished my last requirement, EC Business Strategy and with it, my BS General Business degree is complete after 6 years of starting down this path!

With the help of IC, bainfourweeks.com, and this forum, I started working on my degree plan in 2004 but lost steam and motivation and "dropped out" of EC after a year. Four years later, feeling frustrated with my inability to finish the goals I had set for myself, I renewed my focus, carefully crafted my degree plan, started setting aside a portion of my paycheck for school costs, started taking classes and exams as I could afford them, then enrolled again in December of last year when I was down to two exams and the Business Strategy class, and continued full speed ahead until the sweet end. Not only that, but I just completed saving up for my graduation fees and will have completely self-financed my bachelors degree!

On a personal note, this journey has really transformed me from a person with low self-esteem who was constantly told by her mother that she wouldn't amount to anything and couldn't even finish college, to a confident, positive and strong woman who not only financed her education while working a full time job, but also finished summa cum laude with 89 graded credits! I told my mom today and her silence on the phone spoke volumes.

IC and this forum have been absolutely invaluable and I know I couldn't have achieved this without the kind and selfless help and support of everyone on this forum. I feel that you all were my true classmates, offering academic advice, motivational support, and sometimes just a place to vent in a non-judgmental atmosphere that has been nothing short of amazing. Thank you.

When I think of my younger cousins in college financed by their parents as they party every night and don't have to worry about money or food or making a living, I always tell them how lucky they are and not to take their experience for granted. They look at me strangely and laugh, yet I feel that you folks understand, especially those moments when you feel overwhelmed and cry, wanting to give up. Please keep your eyes on the goal and know that the reward is sweeter for you because the journey makes it so. IT IS WORTH IT.

I have this framed on my wall above my computer and it has helped me when I struggled. I hope it will do the same for some of you:

Quote:Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence.
Talent will not;
nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent.
Genius will not;
unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.
Education will not;
the world is full for educated derelicts.

Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.
Learn to finish what you have begun.
You are playing the game of life stakes higher than you may realize.

Bless you all,
Helen
