Advise please - seeking business degree

I'd like to point out that the TAMUC degree is NOT a business degree, so if he was to apply for jobs that specifically required this type of degree, he'd be at a disadvantage.  I like that you're in TX and the name recognition part of it, but not the degree name.

While I don't have experience, I would have assumed the opposite - that the Organizational Leadership major, and the topics covered under it, would both align with the "business" category of degrees and be an advantage for someone applying to leadership positions?

Organizational Leadership is very different than a degree in Business Administration where you have numerous courses in accounting, economics. HR, marketing. management, etc. You don't complete those business core courses in leadership degrees typically.

It really depends on the student and their objective, it's the same thing we tell people who are looking at a TESU BSOL, to try the TESU BSBA instead as the OL is not alternative credit or test out friendly as the BSBA, furthermore, it doesn't have the extra ACBSP accreditation. Essentially, you don't need a BSBA to get into an MBA program, the same goes for getting into a business admin job, as long as you have the prerequisites. So, having said that, the OP can take a look at the requirements of the TAMUC and compare it to a typical degree they want to get into... having 48 credits of anything the OP wants to specialize in, it can be all business admin or something they're interested in, that's what I would do.

Oh and to add, if you look at the WGU MBA and the MSML, you can see that there are course overlaps... all degrees with a similar type at each and every school including HAU MBA and their MS Sales Management, share courses... again, search for what your want to do, see advice that meets your need and take that course. I still would recommend TAMUC over TESU any day due to even more flexibility to take courses that you want and not be stuck with courses that the school makes you take.

This makes a lot of sense, although he is already a manager at 18, so is it possible that an OL degree could be a better fit for him than someone with no experience?

This is an excellent point. My thinking is that a 7-week term with minimum progress would be just enough to keep him on track, but if he has extra time and motivation at any point to accelerate, he can. It should be more structure and motivation to make progress than TESU, for example, where almost all the courses would be DIY.

Well, let's throw SNHU's hat in the ring as well.

SNHU has lots of programs, including Business Administration with an Entrepreneur concentration. They also have a Finance degree.

SNHU will cost $9900 for 10 courses and take 8-10 months to complete.

So yes, technically, SNHU will cost more and take more time than other options, but not by a huge margin.
