Accidentally Found Two Doctoral Programs with No Dissertation or No Residency
#11
TMW2010 Wrote:Hmmm... That ASU degree sounds tempting, if it's still offered in 3 to 4 years... I've been in talks with the director of a local university about their M.Ed. program in Applied Behavioral Studies which leads being qualified to sit for the Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) exam and subsequent work requirement, and it looks like I might try to start that next fall. It'll be my first attempt at a 'traditional' college experience in almost 20 years, but it's still got some non-traditional aspects to it - it's accelerated with a night a week and one to two weekend sessions per 8 week class. Unfortunately, I don't think they (ASU) would accept the temporary license granted to those going through the work experience requirement before the actual LPC certification is granted.

Only downside is that it'll be my second M.Ed. so until I complete the LPC cert, I wouldn't have any extra cool designations to stick on my business cards after my name Tongue

Check out the recent thread asking for doctoral programs without dissertations. I posted a link to an old thread I made for ASU's new DBH, Management Track. This program is made for those with master's degrees in public health, business administration, healthcare administration, or any kind of behavioral health or allied health field. You don't need to be a master's-level clinician.

Thanks for that update. I don't know if I'd prefer the management track to the clinical track... The only real ouch to it is the $45k price tag. I guess it's time to get out of adjuncting at multiple schools and find a full time position with tuition reimbursement. Tongue
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Wile E. Coyote, genius. I am not selling anything nor am I working my way through college, so let's get down to basics: you are a rabbit and I am going to eat you for supper. Now don't try to get away, I am more muscular, more cunning, faster and larger than you are, and I am a genius, while you could hardly pass the entrance examinations to kindergarten, so I'll give you the customary two minutes to say your prayers.

Bachelor of Science in PsychoRabbitology degree
Master of Education with a specialty in Rabbit-specific destructive munitions (or eLearning & Technology, I forget which)
Doctor of Philosophy in Wile E. Leadership with an area of specialty in Acme Mind Expansion - 2017 Hopefully

It probably doesn't make a difference right now since the DBH doesn't lead to licensure in anything. Those in the management track are free to take courses in the clinical track as electives. One might even get enough credits in the management track to teach healthcare administration.

This is a good point and I wish schools offering these doctoral programs would spell this out a bit more openly. There's really nothing specific you can do with that DBH as it's not a psychology degree. But it could also be used to maybe manage a mental health facility, but even then, they usually want licensed psychologists/psychiatrists doing that too.
