Texas A&M's online Executive Ed.D in Curriculum and Instruction has no residency requirements, but it does have something called a "record of study" which is similar to a dissertation. For admission, it is required that the applicant have at least five years of teaching experience.

Arizona State University has an online Doctor of Behavioral Health which does have residency requirements and includes a practicum in a clinical setting. Instead of a dissertation, students complete a research project. The program can be completed in 18 months if the student already has a clinical master's degree (a degree that led to licensure as a counselor, social worker, psychology associate, etc.).

Yay! I found my old thread. I really wish I was a masters-level clinician so that I could go for ASU's DBH. A doctorate in 18 months is unbeatable! They did, however, tell me that they were creating a management track that should be open to everyone. I also found two more online programs without dissertations, but they require that the person be some kind of healthcare professional.

A.T. Still's D.H.Sc in Health Science requires a 1-week residency and a 5-credit applied research project. The requirement below will disqualify a lot of people.

practitioner, administrator, educator, clinician, or researcher in healthcare

I'm wondering if my registration as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor Intern would be acceptable. I thought about getting licensed as a pharmacy technician, but I don't think that would count as a healthcare professional.

Nova Southeastern University also has a D.H.Sc in Health Science that only requires a 2-credit capstone! There is a practicum and internship requirement, however. Healthcare experience is required for admission.

Maybe I shouldn't say that 18 months for a doctorate is unbeatable. I think I've seen some 12-month DNP programs.

Normally the dissertation alone takes 18 months at least to complete.
I know many NCU students who are just completing their dissertations and have been with the school for 5 and 6 years.

Hmmm... That ASU degree sounds tempting, if it's still offered in 3 to 4 years... I've been in talks with the director of a local university about their M.Ed. program in Applied Behavioral Studies which leads being qualified to sit for the Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) exam and subsequent work requirement, and it looks like I might try to start that next fall. It'll be my first attempt at a 'traditional' college experience in almost 20 years, but it's still got some non-traditional aspects to it - it's accelerated with a night a week and one to two weekend sessions per 8 week class. Unfortunately, I don't think they (ASU) would accept the temporary license granted to those going through the work experience requirement before the actual LPC certification is granted.

Only downside is that it'll be my second M.Ed. so until I complete the LPC cert, I wouldn't have any extra cool designations to stick on my business cards after my name Tongue
