ASU to Launch a Free Global Initiative and enroll 100 million students
#41
Hopefully, students are just applying for graduation and might have to pay a graduation fee. It would be sad if they wasted $25 million on a useless management MOOC. They could have put $1,250 students through a $20k master's program, but we'll see how this turns out.

I'm in the webinar. The initial offerings are graduate-level. The non-credit certificate is awarded automatically upon completion of the five courses. The graduate certificate is awarded after application and completing each course with a "B" or better. This program is targeting people with a bachelor's degree, but the graduate courses are open to those who don't have a bachelor's degree. If the courses are too challenging, they encourage you to switch to the undergraduate courses.

Later, they plan to offer undergraduate courses that will lead to a 15-credit undergraduate certificate. The curriculum for this is different. They will also be offering an entrepreneurship bootcamp.

You beat me to it!

Thought I'd add that in the QA section they mentioned that classes will be on-demand and self-paced.

I asked whether those without a bachelor's degree are eligible for the 15-credit graduate certificate or only the non-credit certificate.
Answer: the non-degree certificate for sure

There is no cost to convert courses to credits. There's only a transcript fee.

You can take each class pass/fail, but in order to earn credit, it must be taken for a grade. Along with personal reflections and writing assignments, each course will have a midterm and final exam.

According to Laura Polk:
Quote:There is not an “application” for the 15 credit certificate.  However, you do need to register for the program and fully complete the 5 courses within the certificate program for the certificate.

You need to complete all five classes to earn credits (according to Dean Sanjeev Khagram)
Quote:right now, it will only be after all five courses

You can't use any undergraduate courses toward the graduate certificate and vice versa (according to Laura Polk)
Quote:The 5 graduate courses will need to be completed and passed to achieve the graduate certificate.  The undergraduate courses will need to be completed and passed to achieve the undergraduate certificate.

No additional materials required (according to Tomas Bilbao)

Quote:Everything you need will be provide on the digital platform.

Laura Polk stated that you needed to pass the five courses and apply for the graduate certificate. When someone asked about the application process, she said there wasn't an "application." I think she means there isn't a traditional application process. You just fill out a form to receive your certificate.

Graduates of the certificate program can be a part of the alumni network. The courses can be completed between two weeks and six months.

The first course will be in English. They plan to translate the courses to eight or nine additional languages throughout this year. I get the impression that all of the graduate courses in 10 languages are paid for, so this is open to everyone without restrictions. These are self-directed courses, so there aren't many administrative costs for ASU. If you pre-registered, you will eventually receive an invitation to register for the first course being offered in April.

Edit: Decided to transcribe the screenshots for simplifying reference:

Graduate Courses:
  1. Global Leadership & Personal Development
  2. Global Entrepreneurship & Sustainable Business
  3. Data Analytics & Digital Transformation in a Global World
  4. Customer Experience & Digital Marketing in a Global World
  5. Global Accounting: Managing by the Numbers
Undergrad Courses:
  1. Principles of Global Management
  2. Principles of Global Accounting
  3. Principles of Global Marketing
  4. Big Data in the Global Economy
  5. Global Entrepreneurship
Extra notes:
  • Both sets of courses result in a Certificate of Global Management, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, just one is undergrad and one is graduate.
  • Both certificates seem to have similarly themed courses: management/leadership, accounting, marketing, data, and entrepreneurship. So if you find that the graduate courses are difficult, you can probably go for the undergrad ones instead(when available) or even use them to help prep for the grad courses.
  • They are planning to release the first grad course in April 2022 and subsequent courses roughly every 2 months(8 weeks) after that. I don't recall if they gave a timeline for the undergrad courses yet.
  • They are supposed to be self-paced, on-demand, free, transcripted, RA, multiple languages... basically everything that makes them useful. Also free.
  • A lot of them have "global" in the course name, this is most likely to distinguish them from the other business school at ASU(Thunderbird School of Global MAnagement vs W.P. Carey School of Business).

Below I've attached a few screenshots outlining the 5 undergrad and 5 grad courses that will be part of the 2 certificates.
