APS-1000 TECEP
#1
I received the following email from academic advising:

Good morning,

I am emailing you this morning in regards to your registration for the APS-1000 TECEP exam for August semester. It does not appear that this will fulfill any of your remaining degree requirements. So I wanted to make sure you were aware of this so that you have time to adjust your schedule if needed. If you are aware that it does not fulfill any degree requirements and you are taking it for another reason then simply reply to this email and confirm this to ensure you are not dropped.

Should I mention in my response that I'm doing it to maintain my enrollment status and lock the catalogue year? Any recommendations?

You can reply saying that you plan to take it for your own personal enrichment. (You do not then have to actually take the exam.)

I personally would not mention "maintain my enrollment status and lock the catalogue".

I'd go with their wording and say something like "Yes, I am aware that it does not fulfill any degree requirements and confirm that I am taking it for another reason. Thank you"

My final response was actually a combination of the two suggestions. I'm hoping I won't get sued for not citing sources...

I am sorry but is there a need to lock a catalog that is already out there and valid for a year?
I am in application status at the moment, which is valid for one year from the day of my acceptance. I already have my evaluation report created, based on catalog that is valid for a full year.
I am trying to finish my remaining SDC courses, before I enroll for anything. Is this a right approach?
I am majoring in BACS.

There are some benefits to becoming enrolled, but catalog-wise as long as you register for some course before a year is up, you'll be fine. We often have people do this so they can get extra transcript evaluations, or use student services like the NJ State Library. However, being an applicant is enough to lock down the catalog for the first year.

It's highly recommended that you enroll as soon as you know you'll be getting a TESU degree. The Medical Terminology TECEP is only $52 and is worth it.

TESU occasionally decides to stop accepting certain classes as meeting degree requirements. If you have completed one of these classes and sent it in before the decision is announced, you're good. If you have completed it but not sent it in, you may be out of luck and forced to redo the class from another source. If this happens, you'll spend way more than the cost of a TECEP to redo the classes. Think of the TECEP as an insurance policy.

Thank you!

Do they put TECEP as failed on transcript if I don’t take the exam?
How many times I have to (or I am allowed to) register for the TECEP in case it takes me longer than expected to complete SDC courses?
I don’t want to lose courses I have already completed and transferred.

If you fail a TECEP or do not take the TECEP, it will not show on your transcript. Only passed TECEPs show. If you do not take it, you can do this at least twice. However, with TESU now "policing" students and emailing them to tell them that the TECEP they chose doesn't fit their degree plans, it might not be a good idea to do more than that.

One can always pay for a different, and more expensive, TECEP in 2 years (if still a student) to avoid arousing TESU's suspicion. It's still cheaper than an actual TESU class. Big Grin

@doom, so... did they authorize the TECEP? You're leaving us at the edge of our seats in suspense! LOL...
