**ALERT** 8 CLEP exams downgraded
#1
Bad news....

CLEP has undergone their ACE exam review and a total of 8 exams have been DOWNGRADED the recommended credit value.

If you are not locked into/enrolled in a degree plan, the new credit amounts will apply.

American Literature DOWNGRADED from 6 to 3 credits.
Analyzing and Interpreting Literature DOWNGRADED from 6 to 3 credits.
College Composition Modular DOWNGRADED from 6 to 3 credits.
English Literature DOWNGRADED from 6 to 3 credits.
Humanities DOWNGRADED from 6 to 3 credits.
All three foreign language exams remain at 6 credits for a level 1 pass but DOWNGRADED to 9 credits for level 2 passes (scores vary-see link).

Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.

Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.

Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.

Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.

Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.

Does anyone know if you've already taken one of these exams, but are not locked into a degree plan, will they be counted as the old or new values?

if you're enrolled, then you're locked and you have already been awarded credit on your transcript. If you are still waiting to enroll, you'll be subject to the new guidelines.

According to the ACE Guide - the downgrade was effective March 1, 2015:

That's why I don't like the idea of taking the tests first, then enrolling and graduating. I paid for three years of student fees at Excelsior to stay enrolled ($440 a year), but it was well worth it. There were multiple and ugly changes after I enrolled that didn't apply to me.

Also, someday maybe a MS in Forensic Psychology, just for fun.   Oh, and a BS in Animal Behavior.  And, maybe when I'm 85 a PhD in something fun.

Overall it is still up to the school to decide what they award right? As of right now, TESC has not changed their policy still has 12 under languages and 6 CR for the random courses.

I suspect this is true, though I have no doubt once the schools fully catch on they will adjust. There is no incentive to buck the system.

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

To quote your average 6th grader, "OMG!!!!":willynilly:

I have notoriously bad luck when it comes to timing, but for once I squeaked in under the wire having taken all 3 Lit tests in 2011-2012 and enrolling at EC in 2014. I don't think I really understood the chance I took by waiting those three years...

Now, if I'd only come to the party in 2010 I would have avoided the dreaded Capstone banghead...
