Just wanted to say that when they raised the CLEP price to $80 some places raised the sitting fee also (I've seen $30 sitting fee) ,so keep in mind that may be a little more. So you may want to plan for up to $110 per Clep.

Is it just me or am I the only who is appalled that College Board charges $20 to send a transcript of your CLEP score to an extra institution. They REALLY want to save people money. I know you could send the first one to your school, but if you go to a community college and are planning on transferring to a university later you'll have to mail another transcript, and that's another $20 hit after you already paid them $77(now 80) to do the test. Seems a little greedy to me, although I know someone will come along and say it's cheaper than taking the class.

I hope ACE credit through Aleks catches on. I think a correspondence-like self-paced course through Aleks is more representative of true success in a subject than a singular test based on a random picking of all topics in a subject. ie; 6-7 books from American Literature out of hundreds. But that's just one man's opinion.

It's pretty affordable, it's like a personal tutor who is available 24/7.

I just signed up today and evaluated my skills on college algebra. It says I have a mastery of 52/311 topics, is that bad?(I've only taken up to Intermediate algebra in the actual classroom)

I can see why some schools give credit for this. Proctored or not, it looks like a challenge to complete this course.

Yes, the cost of transcripts can start to add up, but you can wait until later to send all of your scores to the university for one fee from each place. If I recall correctly, CLEP transcript fee is $20 for all scores, DSST is $30, and ACE is $40 for the first one and $15 for any additional trancripts.

That's pretty smart, it just occurred to me they would send copies of all your scores for all the tests. Although, some universities don't allow CLEP credit to be posted your senior year(probably when credits equals the senior level. Above or equal to 84 credit hours?) So I'd be wary of that, I'm transferring into the University of Missouri and that's their policy.

That is a wrinkle I hadn't considered. One thing this would do is discourage using CLEP as a last ditch effort to graduate on time, which I have seen at my test center lately. I am glad that you are aware of the policies at your school for this.

oh yeah, whenever you are pursuing something special like test credit it's best to look into it. I often Google search the topics and see how other schools do it, that way I can have a solid argument that they should do it like x,y or z university. Just in case it becomes something that might be worthy of a petition.

On a different topic, I'm working on the college algebra on Aleks. Does anyone know how many topics you have to master after doing the diagnostic test to be re-evaluated again? 20? 40? 60?

On a similar note, I'm working on the Aleks to hopefully get credit for college algebra. My community college, maple woods, is on the list of colleges/universities that accept ACE scores for credit. MCC is now one institution instead of 5 now, so I'm going to check with the school before I drop that $40 to send over my transcripts. Either way, even if they don't give me credit I'm sure when I take the Compass test again at the end of July I'll do dramatically better than ever before. The amount of things I'm learning in Aleks in a day is amazing, I'm on pace to tackle like 20-30 topics today, and the great thing is most of this stuff I've known but I forgot one rule or one rule was missing from me getting it right. Pretty much in love with this Aleks program

Does anybody know how the college algebra credit appears on the ACE transcript? I want to e-mail my school about it to confirm they take it, and I want to make sure they know what I'm talking about.

Is it listed at College Algebra -- Alek0003 like on the ace website here?

Thanks!

In the My Courses area it shows College Algebra, ALEKS Corporation (McGraw Hill), ALEK-0003, and the date the course was completed. The course title is a link to the course description which matches what you linked. Ordered my transcript yesterday evening, and within an hour it had been e-mailed to TESC.

Hope this helps!
