True, I ran into a Lawyer with a PhD a few months ago who enlisted in the Signal corps when I was in Korea. He was a Specialist E-4. I didn't want to get into his personal life, but it just looked funny seeing someone older than me working for one of my Sergeants.
I'm guessing he just needed to pay off some of his student loans, do his time and get out.
