Hey,
Applied professional are credits that would be related to the profession the degree is in. I'm in the EC BS in Health Sciences so my applied professional credits are EMS, EMT, Nursing & related courses. Now within each degree and school they will decide which exams like CLEP and DSST are applied professional credits, mostly they are anything that would fall outside the traditional arts & sciences. At EC in my BSHS "school" they consider the following DSST exams as applied professional: Intro to business, business law II, Business Math, Intro to computing, substance abuse, principles of finance, financial accounting , Here's to your health, HR management, Law enforcement, MIS, personal finance & principles of supervision. You can see how these are all geared towards a specific profession rather than the arts and sciences.
I know EC lists the breakdown of where they place these exam credits in their credit by assessement publication.
I hope this helps.
