I hope everyone caught using AI gets expelled. I informed UMPI to be vigilant.
You hope EVERYONE using AI gets expelled? Or do you mean, those using generative AI to write their papers should be expelled? Because lots of folks use it strictly for research. Do you believe that someone who uses AI to compile a deck of flashcards from their own type written notes, is a cheater? Can the AI memorize the flashcards and walk into the lecture hall and take the test for you? ANKI now has AI learning algorithms based on the forgetting curve; is that cheating? Grammerly uses AI; is Grammerly cheating (some professors think it is).
This is exactly why UMPI, even Harvard, the UCs are all relatively neutral on the use of AI. Because it's not as black and white as, "lets kick everyone out who we suspect of, and catch using AI." To be clear, using AI to replace your own writing or in lieu of your own writing is cheating in my opinion. However, many folks are submitting their writing samples to chatGPT for advice on how to better phrase an idea or to improve tone and flow. As long as it's their own writing, I'm fine with it.
