I have to admit to being a little bit amused by this development.
When I enrolled, they were known as "Regents College" and diplomas bore the legend "University of the State of New York".
When they changed to "Excelsior College" I remember being disappointed that my diploma wouldn't mention a "university" anymore, but the truth is, if you know Excelsior's history and background, it didn't really mean all that much. "University of the State of New York" was really more of a state agency than an actual institution of higher learning. There are even high school GEDs out there that read "University of the State of New York".
So while this is an interesting development and I thank the OP and all those who've contributed to the thread, as an EC "long hauler", I'm getting a kick out of it.
