I've heard that ProWritingAid https://prowritingaid.com/ is better than Grammarly, especially for academic papers. Grammarly is fine for catching small mistakes (I use it on a regular basis myself) but it can be pretty stupid sometimes and might suggest something wholly inappropriate. For instance, the words in the parentheses in this post? Grammarly is trying to tell me that "myself" should be "me". It's always doing stuff like that. Could be very frustrating if you're trying to get a paper written near the deadline and Grammarly is trying to point out all of these "mistakes" that aren't actually mistakes.
