No. Just... no. The parties switched sides/names during the Civil Rights era. The Southern Democrats went Republican after the Civil Rights Act was signed by LBJ. The Republicans who thought black persons were actually people went Democrat. https://www.history.com/news/how-the-par...atic-south
As someone who has lived in Virginia since the late 50s, you know where of you speak, Rachel83az. The Byrd Machine was a Democratic entity and it was a racist organization in Virginia. Now? That honor goes to Virginia's Republican party.
After the Civil War, the Democratic Party opposed Reconstruction. Dixiecrats had a convention in Alabama in 1948 when Pres. Harry S. Truman had a pro-civil rights party on the Democratic party's platform. Strom Thurmond ran on a States' Rights ticket. (He eventually switched from the Democratic party to the Republican party.)
Eventually, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act in 1964 and the Voting Rights Act in '65. Steadily, the South moved from a Democratic stronghold until it became the Republican stronghold it is today.
