I am glad to report I passed Human Growth and Development which I sat for on September 29, 2007, with a score of 62 and felt confident throughout the exam.I am new to the site and I notice alot of people referring to the IC flashcards but when I do a search nothing comes up ???? I am studying for Human Growth and development
Once again I think you should be able to pass this exam with just the Instacert flashcards, as long as you know 90 to 95% of the material. To be safe I also studied the REA book and believed it really helped me to be confident throughout the exam.
It did not hurt that I have also taken and passed Educational Psychology as there is a lot of cross-over between these two exams.
I was concerned about forgetting the research terms such as classical conditioning, independent variables, dependant variables, negative correlation, positive correlation etc, etc. but the good news is there are not that many questions of that type on this exam so donât get too frustrated if you do not understand them or have trouble remembering them. Just try to get a basic understanding about the different research methods and you should be fine.
I got a little annoyed at all the questions about language development and felt as though someone stuck in a short English exam in on this exam, but the answers are also covered in the flash cards so put extra focus on the language development section.
The list below is the majority of what I recall on the exam and should really be known and understood before attempting this exam.
Freudâs five psychosexual stages.
Kohlbergâs three levels of moral development.
Maslow's hierarchy of needs.
Erikson's 8 stages of development.
Paiget's 4 stages of cognitive development.
Understand the meaning of secure attachment.
Know the different styles of parenting, mainly Authoritarian and Authoritative.
Know what teratogens are and what they harm the most, either the zygote, embryo, or fetus.
Be able to define holophrase syntax, semantics, phoneme, morpheme.
Know how to define a longitudinal research.
Know the definition of habituation.
Be able to define telegraphic speech.
Know how first born children are different than later born children.
Know what gender identify means.
Well, I hope this helps. I am now moving on to Intro to Business Law.
Good luck to you all, Jay
