Hi,
I am planning to take DSST Exam for the Principles of Statistics in the mid december timeframe and I am wondering if it will be sufficient to pass the exam just by studying the intracert questionaires. Please, advice me if anyone have taken Statistics exam earlier. If I need to focus on studying other books / materials, please do forward the names to me. I am pretty new to these CLEP / DSST's. Also, what are teh total number of questions and the passing score?
Also, In intantcert, the formula for SD is sqrt (sigma (X-mean) / N-1) whereas in other books, it's sqrt (sigma (X-mean) / N ). which one is correct? Please advice.
Thanks much,
Nithya:p

I'm still waiting for my grade so can't tell you if it was enough to pass. I used Instantcert and the Dummies Guide workbook. There are different versions of the test so the number of questions vary. I think around 100 is a safe guess. (Note: I took the paper version - the electronic version may be different.) If you do a search of this forum you'll find many a thread on this exam.
The one suggestion that I'd have is to find more info on hypothesis statements. There were plenty on the version of the exam that I sat. Way beyond what instantcert covers.
Remember that the point of instantcert is to help you PASS, not ace tests.
Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

Hi Nithya-
I took this last summer. I think if I remember correctly, the difference between the two formulas is the one over N isthe SD for a population and the one over N - 1 is the SD of a sample. There are some previous threads on this subject with reference to extra materials that are helpful. Good luck with your studies.

At the risk of sounding unintelligent (!), I took the test in the summer and did not pass by 3. If I remember correctly, there were 90 ?'s (written version) and u needed a 48 to pass. I obviously found it very difficult, but had no previous background in it whatsoever. Took a crash course, studied for 15 nights maybe and used ic. long, hard test. study well!

Absolutely get idiots guide and work through about 2/3rds of the book. Also watch free videos at Learners.org. Dummies good stunk. So make sure you use the idiots guide for stats and just work through it. Take your time. I got a 73 on this one and spent about 3-4 hours taking the test. I had to pass. There wasn't an option. Idiot's guide and instantcert will get you a passing score.

Hi,
I got my result yesterday and I have just passed it. I got 55. I would say if you go through the Instantcert qns and also the links that were posted on the discussion forum, you definitely can pass. And ofcourse, that was my goal as well since this is my Pre-req for the Masters degree that I am planning to Pursue.
Thanks to Instantcert and for those who posted the links!!!
