Passed Principles of Accounting on Friday with a 62. I am so relieved. Wanted to have it done before the change next year. Yay! Because of my intermittent internet situation it wouldn't have happened without the help of Dale and Snazz. So I want to be sure and say thanks you two!!! I owe you.

Hi guys,

After a brief hospital stay (Asthma). I am back in good health and spirits. I have been studying for this exam and just wanted to know from anybody who has taken it recently:

1. Out of the 78 questions, how many questions did you have involving math calculations verses the non math questions?

2. Is IC sufficient for the Managerial Portion of the exam?

Probably will sit this one before the end of the month. This one feels like a monkey on my back and I am ready to move on. The hospital stay slowed my progress down but I am happy to be healthy and ready to continue the journey.

Hi Don-
I just took this on Tuesday. I scored a 66. Except for US Government where I scored a 60, this is my lowest score so far. I thought this was the hardest test I have taken so far, hands down. I wasn't prepared for how difficult it was for me. It felt like I needed to be in high gear like I was for the Algebra Clep and I just wasn't moving that fast that day. I ran out of time where I had to guess on about 10 questions. I thought there were a lot of problems with calculations that took a long time to figure out. Some I just out and out skipped and then went back and guessed because of time. Don't be fooled by the CLEP Pretest, I easily scored an 88% on it and sat laughing. The joke was on me. That test will make you very overconfident. I can't even give you any ideas about the test because all I did was keep moving, next, next, next. Do not underestimate this test, they make you earn every one of those 6 credits. But when you come out on the other side you will have 6 new credits! My study resources were IC and principlesofaccounting.com and my husband.

Congrats! I am reluctantly planning to take College Math next month. So far, I have not been doing well on the Cleps. I haven't touch math in over xx years. How long would you recommend someone in my position to study? The reason that I'm asking, I've scored high on the peterson tests and still failed the Clep. As of now, I think I have a phobia with the Cleps.

Hi Don,
On the version of the test that I had probably about a third of the problems needed some kind of basic math calculations. The math itself was easy but knowing the right formula for the situation was vital to being able to work the problem.

I had real trouble with the financial accounting because in the beginning too much of it seemed backwards to me. Counterintuitive is how one of "our classmates" put it and he was so right. With enough practice it all finally clicked though. The managerial portion made a lot more sense to me.

A really helpful site to go along with IC and principlesofaccounting.com is accountingcoach.com I would say that IC alone isn't enough for either portion of this exam but that of course may not be true for someone else with different life experience.

Thanks for the information you provided. I read your comments yesterday and I decided to take the Principles of Accounting clep today. I studies from the website principlesofaccounting.com and found it very helpful. Also, I would focus more on the first part of the accounting and not so much on the managerial accounting.

I also want to add that Section 1 of the IC Principles of Finance will also help to study for this test.
