Precalculus CLEP
#11
Sorry to hear that you failed. You have gave it your best shot. I have a couple of questions, if I may, how hard was college math compared to pre calculus?
What would you suggest for studying materials. I have been comptemplating to take both College Math and Calculus. I haven't been near math since high school.

Sorry to hear that it didn't go so well for you. A 45 is pretty close too. . . You are going to be taking the class at TESC in January? Depending on how I score on the clep I probably will also be in this class. Any ideas on things to concentrate my studying on at this point? How comfortable were you with the calculator and were there many questions that required it? Did you have enough time to work all of the problems? Sorry again that it didn't work out for you. Good luck with the class and I may be in it with you.

The instacert was great for the Humanities exam. I also took practice tests from REA General ed clep book. This was my first clep.

Cool I only have one more the, Human growth and development that I am taking in a couple weeks.

Smile I'm enrolled in Liberty U. in the RN to BSN program. It had been over 20 years since I was in college.

To answer your questions:

1. No, I'm enrolling in a junior college to take a semester of pre-cal. Should be easy with this foundation, just time consuming. Dang-it.

2. As far as comparison with College Math (or Business Math, for that matter), pre-cal is a totally different language. I have been told again and again that it is arguably harder than Calculus because the concepts are truly foreign to previous math.

3. As far as preperation goes, there will be about three to four trig problems that you need to be able to work out FAST. This is why I had trouble - I hadn't worked out a lot of problems. If I had an additional hour to play around with the formulas, I would have passed no problem. Work out a lot of real problems until you can work with ease.

4. I downloaded the calculator off collegeboard.com. It is easy to work with once you are familiar with it. Use it to work out real life problems.

5. As far as course of study, the majority of the test is true to the test descriptions: TONS AND TONS OF FUNCTION PROBLEMS. Know all about them and how to graph them.

Hope you do better than I!hilarious

One more thing, because I think you might find it interesting....

I was so mad I failed that THE NEXT DAY WITHOUT ANY PREPERATION I attempted to clep out of Calculus. Straight up. My idea was to not read a single question and just analyze the numerical multiple choice answers for a $75 chance at no more math. I scored a 37 in 30 minutes. Most fun test of my life.

.....there's a funny post to brighten your study days....Big Grin

adamdriggers Wrote:I took a look - with my study buddy - at the 25 questiosn you buy for ten bucks off the CLEP site and WE COULD NOT ANSWER EVEN ONE QUESTION. I just finished my second video series today and I am super discouraged. Apparently the trouble is these tapes are very different from what is on the test, as well as it seems the test is far harder than the material we are studying.

Adam,

How similar was the actual Pre-calculus test compared to the guide that you can buy from the collegeboard.com?

I'm taking Pre-calc on Friday. It will be my last CLEP if I pass or I'll be enrolling in the class at TESC for the April term. Wish me luck.
