I will soon acquire Dr Montas's book, " Rescuing Socrates."
I tuned into a lecture almost exactly like this one today via the University of Chicago Graham School.

I am two years into the Basic Program. I am loving every moment of it.

Really? Has President Trump said he wants to do away with liberal arts education? If so, it's very concerning.
I am very concerned regarding the closing of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Offices. As I have stated many times, I believe DEI and Equal Opportunity are good and necessary.
I will do a bit of due diligence, and perhaps address my concerns to the President's office.

Studying pretentious crap like Shakespeare will have zero impact on your life and career. For things like Greek philosophers just watch a documentary series or some Youtube videos. You name the topic and there is a good documentary or Youtube series on it and you can just enjoy it instead of worrying about having to write a paper on it.

To each their own. Professor Montas's discussion was advocating for the value of young people enrolling in residential Liberal Arts programs. St. John's College Great Books program and others get a mention.
Sure one may learn all about the Liberal arts all by his or herself. I think Professor Montas is remarkable. His lecture speaks for itself. I look forward to reading "Rescuing Socrates."
I am really enjoying the Basic Program. I am right where I need to be in my journey of life-long learning.

But O, how bitter a thing it is to look into happiness through another man's eyes.

John Adams, visiting Paris in 1780, wrote home to Abigail:
Quote:I could fill Volumes with Descriptions of Temples and Palaces, Paintings, Sculptures, Tapestry, Porcelaine, &c. &c. &c.—if I could have time. But I could not do this without neglecting my duty.—The Science of Government it is my Duty to study, more than all other Sciences: the Art of Legislation and Administration and Negotiation, ought to take Place, indeed to exclude in a manner all other Arts.—I must study Politicks and War that my sons may have liberty to study Mathematicks and Philosophy. My sons ought to study Mathematicks and Philosophy, Geography, natural History, Naval Architecture, navigation, Commerce and Agriculture, in order to give their Children a right to study Painting, Poetry, Musick, Architecture, Statuary, Tapestry and Porcelaine.
My highest credential by financial return on investment might always be my commercial driver's license class A. But we have the means today to climb all the way up Adams' hierarchy of values, or each of our own.
Yes, there are all sorts of ways to do so informally or less formally, especially with new media and technologies. I just listened to lessons on ancient Greek and Minoan art, downloaded to my phone with the Study.com app, while walking the dog. But formal education will always offer some advantages of its own.

the only "qualifications" Kamala had was that she is a woman and has dark skin -- that's DEI for you
you can buy a subscription from "The great Courses" and learn all the liberal arts you will ever need for less the cost of one semester at a university

She worked as a Lawyer, District Attorney, Attorney General, Senator, and Vice President. What does her gender and skin color have to do with that?
Also, why do you even care about her? She lost. Your guy won. Why keep bringing her up?

The term "liberal arts" can be confusing depending on the context in which it's used.
For example, liberal arts encompasses a wide range of subjects, including math, computer science, and natural sciences which are fields often considered part of STEM.
In fact, nearly all college degrees include some liberal arts courses (outside of STEM) as part of their general education requirements.
However, with the increasing pressure on college students to pursue "marketable" degrees, liberal arts education often gets sidelined.
