TESU BA Math and CS Degree Planning
#11
Just a quick post to update this as I have completed several Coursera Certificates.

Here's what I have done on Coursera.
Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate
Google IT Support Certificate
IBM Data Analysis and Visualization Foundations Specialization
IBM Data Analyst Professional Certificate
Google Advanced Data Analytics Professional Certificate
IBM Data Science Professional Certificate

Every single one of the IBM certificates has required raising an issue with Coursera Customer Service to get the Credly badge issued.

I should have the Google Cloud Data Analytics Professional Certificate done soon as well. However, one of the labs is currently broken, which is preventing completion.

I am going to start the Study.com courses and Westcott's Calculus III in the next few weeks. Still deciding on whether to do linear algebra through westcott or coopersmith. I might wait on that one to see how many UL credits I will have remaining.

My recommendation still remains as I mentioned in post #6, get as many credits possible for transfer, then get the academic evaluation to see where you stand... You can also create that spreadsheet and it'll show you what you have left to do from the 'major'.

In Progress: UMPI BAS & MAOL | TESU BA Biology & Computer Science
Graduate Certificate: ASU Global Management & Entrepreneurship

Completed: TESU ASNSM Biology, BSBA (ACBSP Accredited 2017)

Certs: 6Sigma/Lean/Scrum, ITIL | Cisco/CompTIA/MTA | Coursera/Edx/Udacity

I've continued working away at the alternative credits and have made quite a bit of progress.

As of today, I have completed the following in addition to what I previously posted:
Study.com
CS 306 Computer Architecture
CS 105 Operating Systems
MAT 108 Discrete Math

Google
Cloud Data Analytics Certificate
Cloud Cybersecurity

Straighterline
Calculus II

Onlinedegree.com
Introduction to programming

Some thoughts
I hated the straighterline course as the lecturer drove me bonkers.  I stopped watching the lectures and just read the transcripts.  I took calc II over 20 years ago and while I had to relearn the math skills with my more modern calculator (NSPIRE CAS), the underlying concepts were still present.  I didn't struggle much and got an 86% with only 6 days from start to finish.

Onlinedegree.com drove me insane as I am quite proficient at python programming and wanted to skip ahead.  Being forced to listen to the videos was annoying.  I would not use them for additional credits.  I save 70 dollars over taking intro to programming at study.com.  Not sure if it was worth the 70 dollars in savings.

Study.com has been an efficient way to get credit.  CS 306's assignment to create an ALU was challenging.

I really enjoyed the IBM and Google courses at Coursera.  The ones I liked the most were the ones that were practical applications.  Many of the IBM courses had assignments the required the use of VS code and python.  I liked this a lot.  However, I do think that I learn best this way.

I am debating on the benefits of continuing with the second major in Math.  Currently I am thinking about doing a masters degree in applied statistics.  This is the program that I am currently looking at. https://online.uky.edu/masters/applied-statistics/mas

I have applied and been accepted to TESU; however, I have not yet received an evaluation.  I am hopeful that there won't be any big surprises.

Ideally I will need the two required classes and nothing else.

Hello everyone,

I am just adding more to my journey here.

I got the initial TESU evaluation. Here is some information that I have gleaned from the experience.

All of my general education credits were waived. I have a lot of electives that are unnecessary; but this is not a problem.

I am still waiting for study.com to send the transcripts; however, I don't foresee a problem with the study.com classes counting.

The CYB prefix designated courses do not count for the upper level AOS. I had hoped that CYB 4210 and CYB 4500 from the Google Cloud Cybersecurity and Google Cloud Data Analytics courses would count. CLD 4300 and CIS 3110 did count, so those two certs are still worthwhile. I am going to petition for at least CLD 4500 to be added as it is Cloud Computing and seems to be applicable to a CS degree. If approved, that leaves one more UL course that is needed. Otherwise two are needed.

There are some options for UL courses. I can take Study.com's BUS 303, which transfers in as CIS 3010 at TESU. Honestly not a big fan of that choice. I can Study.com's COS 302 which transfers in as CIS 3200. The latter is definitely the better choice for me as it is more computer stuff and less business stuff. Another option is the IBM Full Stack Certification on Coursera, which would bring in CLD 4200. Does anyone have other suggestions for UL computer science credit?

Experimenting with the degree planner, I do not think that I am going to pursue a BA in Math. As it stands now, I already qualify for the AS in Math. However, I do still think that taking linear algebra would be a good idea for my transcript and grad school applications. The biggest impediment to getting a BA in math is finding more UL math classes. There's differing information on whether Linear Algebra counts for Computer Science. I am going to ask!

ASU Universal Learner CIS 394 Online Cloud Architecture comes in as CLD-4100 Developing Software for the Cloud and fits into the BACS AOS.

Just another update. It now looks like I am not going to need additional AOS electives as was previously thought. This was a really good piece of news.

I am signed up for the Capstone course and am preparing my wallet for the residency waiver.

Hello everyone,

Just posting an update as I recently had more evaluations done.

Here's where things stands.

I am waiting on one more transcript from onlinedegree.com.  I've been waiting for weeks.  Are they normally this slow?
I ran the my progress app for mathematics and was surprised to see that I am only missing two classes for a BA in math.  Am I able to add a second major after I have started the capstone class?  I need calc 3 and linear algebra.  Linear algebra is doable with coopersmith.  Calc 3 can be done with westdott and transferred from UMass Global.  I am thinking about giving that a go as I was wanting to have linear algebra on my transcript for grad school applications.

Cheers!

You can add that second degree at any time before you actually apply for graduation. You can probably get away with adding after applying. It's anyone's guess when it would finally be too late. You could even delay applying if you needed more time to get the courses for the second degree, although I'd guess you'd have a solid month to get those transcripts in after the graduation application deadline.

They were mostly math education classes.  One was an upper division number theory course.  All were offered through the math department and were upper division or graduate credits.  One came in as MAT 3610, the rest as MAT4999.
