Yes, I'm thinking so as well, someone can do a credit exam or PLA of those credits and also have a chat with the advisors on alternative options other than these to get the full credits towards both or either of these minors...

PLA credit? Oh yuck! It's a LOT of papers.

Is there an example of someone else doing this type of thing? Is anyone willing to speculate on what may be the easiest way to bring in Discrete Math?

Point taken, but where there's a will...

That's basically when you need to decide if it takes more energy, money, time doing the courses vs the challenge exams or PLA for the credit. Some people who like a lot of explaining, learning hands-on, documenting/typing and would prefer the PLA vs the course, then sure, that would be an option for them. Here's an example, TESU PLA can grant you 18 credits for $1400... it's so much cheaper than doing a flat rate term if you wanted to get the credits for the same courses offered.

COS 103 - Intro. to Information Tech. (any other for 3 credits) - Sophia
Missing is MAT 253: Discrete Mathematics. Study.com transfers as a math elective.
I just noticed that the wiki is incorrect. Sophia Intro to Web Development transfers as COS 1XX, not COS 200. I also checked the transfer database, and it doesn't show any of the above Saylor courses, although two of them can also be transferred from Study.com. So there are at least two courses missing from the list:
COS 200 - Introduction to Web Design
MAT 253: Discrete Mathematics
I wonder if there are challenge exams for these that YP students can take, or is PLA likely the best remaining option?

Appeal, that's what I would do, ask for the course to see if it can come in as COS-200 to lessen the course load to that discrete math... I think there may already be alternative options for discrete math at Study.com, you can 'again, appeal' to see if they can take the elective for the requirement as the course content is so similar... If all else fails, do the PLA and indicate the courses you've taken are 'identical' or at the very least, it's very similar to course content...

There are very limited challenge exams at UMPI. The PLAs are a great deal of work. You pay per credit before submitting your portfolio. You pay whether or not you pass. It's up to you to create the entire portfolio and there's quite a bit to it including a resume. These credits also do not count in the 30 residency credits. With this being a brand new program, I would be surprised if there were exams for these 2 courses. I had 2 staff members tell me that I didn't want to take a PLA when I first enrolled because of the amount of work in them. Both said actual classes are less work.
UMPI does accept Saylor courses so maybe that would work and no one has taken them yet and applied to UMPI?

You would most likely have the experience and knowledge for the lower level courses when you're able to pass upper level classes. Here's an example, the Saylor.org UL COS 320 - Software Engineering. Remember UMPI has an option for 'credit by experience', we're talking about an introduction to web design, if you have more UL CS/CIS from Study.com or another provider, you can relay to your advisor you have skills above and beyond that initial intro course. Skip it and ask for another course in place of it, issue resolved.

I haven't seen anyone allowed to skip a required course in YourPace. Not saying it hasn't happened, but I can't imagine it's an easy process. It's not like UMPI has a large IT department so there's a plethora of courses to choose from.
I just looked at the transfer database because I feel like there has to be some provider who offers an Intro to Web Develpoment course that would transfer. I did see that Study's Discrete Math classes does not transfer as Discrete Math. It transfers as a math elective, but it also fulfills the math GEC requirements. Maybe they will change how they accept this course now that they're offering a minor which requires it? Don't know when UMPI started offering Discrete Math so that might be why it's MAT1XX.
Most of the Computer Science courses just transfer as electives unfortunately. Maybe as the Comp Sci program at UMPI grows, this will change. The program is still very new. Same may apply to Sophia's Intro to Web Development. There is the possibility of taking this course at a community college and transferring it. Some states have really cheap CC tuition.
I don't see a course on Saylor about Web Design/Development. I'm surprised that this course isn't available from more providers!
I'm wondering about the certificates on Coursera. We know the Google certificates transfer with quite a bit of credit. The IBM and Meta Developer certificates may also. According to the transfer database, they did accept Meta's Social Media Marketing certificate so they should accept Meta's developer certificate. They do accept IBM's Full Stack Developer certificate at 18 credits, but it's all general electives. Maybe this can change with the new minor?

This is a good point. Even Discrete Mathematics II from WGU has transferred as MAT 1XX. Maybe they'll reconsider transferring some of these outside courses as MAT 253 now (as Rachel and Bryan previously alluded to)?

Do you think a PLA would be more work than a whole CC course?

That's a great thought! We know that some of the other ACE certificates have been appealed to get specific courses transferred, so hopefully others can too.
