This is new as of the move to Brightspace. Most/all exams aren't going to be available as of the next term. If ashkir says there are 3 or fewer exams after the Brightspace move, I tend to believe that. Students have been "warned" for months that there would be no exams after the move to Brightspace.

Exactly what Rachel said. The Strut Learning is going away and UMPI is using Brightspace. As part of this move, the entire BABA and other degrees are moving to paper-based and they're getting rid of all exams. There was documentation from a while ago that showed how to do exams on Brightspace. I'm expecting UMPI YourPace will have very minimal interactions with exams hereonout.

So accurate! I don't like how intrusive it is, but don't mind being proctored. Which is why I took most of mine in an exam center. lol

Fake news! Where did you get this from

I am one of the first alums on this forum, along with ss20ts. Our stories helped UMPI grow tremendously etc. This shouldn't be a fear or panic. If someone panics over a proctor, it usually tells me they're trying to cheat to begin with.

As of Brightspace UMPI is getting rid of most exams, and the goal is to move them to essay based submissions.

I'm already a nervous test taker, don't need some random proctor hounding me on my set up and being all nit-picky as read in WGU's reddit thread about nightmarish proctors and exams.

You'll be fine. Very likely everything is going to be an essay from hereonout.

There are today because you're on Strut. With the move to Brightspace, pretty much every business course will change and many of the others will also have changes made to tham.

Well they said “ I believe at this time there are less than 3 exam courses still available”  Dodgy . That’s present and not future. But I get you now.

And they have edited the original post lol.

When I was doing CLEP exams, we had our own private rooms.

I liked my in-person experience far more than doing it online though it was more convenient to do online.

As far as online proctoring, things can go wrong sometimes.
  • The browser can crash, or slow to a crawl if you don't open/close the browser right before the exam.

  • My cam had some loose wire or something where it would DC as I was trying to show my room.

  • My net seems to have a 50/50 chance of having problems at the exact time I need to take my exam. Lol.

  • One time TESU's website crashed at the exact time I was trying to take my exam.

  • These proctors sometimes have problems as well.

When I was doing CLEP exams, there were issues there too.  I much preferred my online proctoring through ProctorU (TECEP's mostly) to having to go to a campus to take exams.  But ProctorU was a pain, and there were always issues.  That being said, it's a toss-up as to which is better, they both have their pros and cons.  The thing I don't understand is people's issues with being watched on camera, vs. being watched in person.  Both were fine with me.  But one isn't better than the other - they're both someone watching to make sure you don't cheat.  I don't get how people differentiate between the two.

I don't care about proctoring. I care about the nonsense rules the proctors make up. Like telling my neighbor to stop mowing his lawn because of the noise or turn my clear glass full of water upside down so they can see in the glass. I don't like the noise they have when they don't mute themselves. i don't like them interrupting me while I'm concentrating. I don't like having to show someone my room and that video is recorded. I don't like sharing my license on camera which is recorded and stored overseas. Cybersecurity is a massive problem with the proctoring industry. The struggle to understand what the proctors are saying can be difficult to work through as some can get pretty aggressive and nasty. I can't say I've experienced these issues in person with a professor or TA in the room. Some professors even leave the classroom during exams because they're bored and have no interest in babysitting. They know that if you're going to cheat, you'll find a way. For some it's not worth the battle.

Wow, that boy in the picture is really afraid of the rabbit... the girl, not so much... It really depends on the student, I've taken so many StraighterLine proctoring with ProctorU, it's become second nature and I don't really let it bother me. But with so many newer and other options available, it's become less of a concern for me.

I'm not saying there aren't issues with online proctoring - I just can't figure out why people get so weird about people "watching them" while they're taking an online test, as if this hasn't been the case since forever with in-person tests.

You develop a relationship with the professor over time so it's not like they're some overlord. They're also not being recorded. Many people are very self conscious about their looks and don't like to be in photos. Being on a video for them is probably like torture. There's a lot of psychology in this. Many people at WGU are VERY stressed about proctored exams. Many people suffer from anxiety and this is just difficult for them to work through.

Agreed. The classroom is the professor's domain, even if they share the room with other professors. My room on the other hand is personal, I rarely let anyone I know go into it, so I wouldn't want to have that recorded in any way - even if it's a brief sweep of it. Proctoring, to some like me, adds a really uncomfortable element which can affect testing performance. In-person versus proctoring is extremely different, in my opinion, I think solely on the basis that proctoring recorded and then stored; and you never really know what's done with that sort of data (because some companies will and have lied about what they do with your data).
