Has anyone been able to get transfer credit at UMPI for a TEFL?
#1
I'm trying to make a degree plan for UMPI's BLS - Educational Studies minor, and I'm wondering if I might have success earning transfer credit from UMPI for my TEFL certification. It was a Level 5 Ofqual Regulated 180-hour course (equivalent to a CELTA, or a Foundations degree in the UK, similar to an Associates in the US).

Has anyone had success with this or know of anyone who has?

A lot of the work I did was focused on education and lesson planning, and I'd obviously rather just get credit for what I've already done than to have to complete yet more assignments that are just repetitive.

I looked on the UMPI website, and I couldn't find any specific information about this for the YourPace online degree. Their portfolio approval process is expensive and not guaranteed, and doesn't appear to be the same for the YourPace as the non-YourPace, so I'm a little confused.

Thanks to anyone who can help!
Rachel

I don’t know what a lot of these UK educational terms mean but it looks like someone had a similar question?

looks like maybe you can possibly get coursework evaluated ?

edit: didn't realize this links to a different message board. I'm still pretty new here

You need to try to get it evaluated through an evaluation company. A portfolio to get credit directly from UMPI would be more difficult and time-consuming than just doing the UMPI classes themselves. Even if you don't get the evaluation you want, don't bother with the portfolio option.

Exactly, you may want to take the time to have it evaluated OR, skip it, you're currently working towards the Pierpont BOG AAS, it'll give 60 credits. You can then take the extra 30 from Sophia.org, bypassing this cert altogether. You need to finish 30 at UMPI for the BLS anyways... I would skip it.

This was a really helpful link, thanks!

Thanks to everyone for the info! I looked into a couple of evaluation services, and it definitely seems like it will be more of a headache than it's worth, so Sophia it is!
