Anyone have a backup plan for me?
#1
Has anyone ever appealed to return back to school at UMPI? If so, what was the time frame it took to hear back something.

Good evening,

I hope everyone is having an awesome day. So I was planning on going back to UMPI. I am appealing at the moment since life happened and wasn't able to attend for year. I am starting to get nervous about the appeal and don't want to "fall" behind any further. Does anyone have a backup plan for me? The reason I chose UMPI was because I had a ton of Sophia credits and a few local tech schools. I was able to get the AAS from Pierpont. What was nice about UMPI was the BLS and no capstone, just complete the classes needed with them and make it happen. Any other options that are similar, BLS and no capstone with max transfer credits? I am also in the process of completing some Google Certs through TADA, which I was planning to transfer to UMPI but if things go left, I would like a place I could send those credits as well.

I tried searching all over and I can't seem to find any solutions. I hope I was able to provide enough info. If not, please let me know.

There is almost always another option available (aka back-up plan), but to provide you that you should list all your current credits here so they are easily assessed (most of us here do not have the time to go back and piece together from your prior posts, and they are historical not the full details as of  'now')...Here is the post for the format - https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...#pid335173

I've been following your journey and I'm still optimistic about your UMPI appeal, but I do understand your anxiety and desire to know what your other options are if that falls through.

There is no other school that does not require a capstone in the under $10k price range. There might be some above that price, but I don't know of any off the top of my head.

Looking at what you currently have: Excelsior is probably the best fit. As of right now, to get the BLS, you'd need:
English Comp II
6 UL courses/18cr in the Arts & Sciences (so Humanities & Social Sciences basically) which you could do through Study.com or Coopersmith (easiest options since we know what comes in as UL in that area from both of these providers)
2 UL courses/6cr and 1 LL course/3cr in the Free Electives area (or the A&S area). Again, SDC and/or Coopersmith. If you already have some ACE credits through Google certs, that would work for LL, not sure about UL.

The main thing to consider with EU is that you only get 1 "Free" eval, so you want to make sure that you have ALL of the credits you need prior to applying. Otherwise, you pay an additional $300 for any subsequent eval.

Cost for tuition & fees for 3 courses/7cr would be $4,031
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TESU's BALS would also be an option, if you did the single 16cr term there. You'd need:
English Comp II
Oral Communication
Diversity (Sociology)
Civic Engagement (Am Govt)
5 UL courses/15cr in the AoS (so Humanities and SocSci basically)
4 LL courses/12cr in the AoS that are 200-level (based on TESU's numbering) - the only 2 remaining available from Sophia are Ancient Greek Philosophers & Conflict Resolution, the others would have to come from SDC or Coopersmith

Cost for Tuition & fees for a single 16cr term would be $4,778
TESU BSBA/HR 2018 - WVNCC BOG AAS 2017 - GGU Cert in Mgmt 2000
EXAMS: TECEP Tech Wrtg, Comp II, LA Math, PR, Computers  DSST Computers, Pers Fin  CLEP Mgmt, Mktg
COURSES: TESU Capstone  Study.com Pers Fin, Microecon, Stats  Ed4Credit Acct 2  PF Fin Mgmt  ALEKS Int & Coll Alg  Sophia Proj Mgmt The Institutes - Ins Ethics  Kaplan PLA

Do you have any info on the capstones? I hear they are horrible and some are group projects. I don't want a group project that requires me to depend on someone else doing their part.

Excelsior has group projects. TESU does not. TESU's capstone is essentially writing a single paper, similar to (though longer than) a standard UMPI class.
In progress:
TESU - BA Computer Science; BSBA CIS; ASNSM Math & CS; ASBA

Completed:
Pierpont - AAS BOG
Sophia (so many), The Institutes (old), Study.com (5 courses)
ASU: Human Origins, Astronomy, Intro Health & Wellness, Western Civilization, Computer Appls & Info Technology, Intro Programming
Strayer: CIS175, CIS111, WRK100, MAT210

I promise I hate papers! I really hope UMPI comes through for me lol. I already would have a ton of papers. I don't want another super long paper lol. Maybe I should send a follow up email about the appeal lol. I was told they met this past week.

Even if you hate papers, TESU shouldn't be too bad. A TESU capstone paper shouldn't be that much more (or less) than you'd write over the course of the ~10 required UMPI classes. It'd simply be on a single topic and not on ten different topics. Maybe not ideal if you'd rather write more short papers, but at least you'd have a degree.

@learningthehardway For planning purposes (building the spreadsheet) for TESU can't forget about the SOS-110 Info Literacy (and the Capstone LIB-495) requirement - although, with the new TESU numbering system those would officially be SOS-1100 and LIB-4950 now.
