Hi all, first off, thanks for all the info. You guys rock!
I applied yesterday (2-11-2023) for the YourPace online Biz-Marketing bachelor's degree, and requested credit transfer thru Parchment program to transfer 28 sophia credits. I plan to pay for each term as I go, so no financial aid.
After reading this forum and seeing the sophia transfer list/recommendations, I've decided that I wanna finish a lot more Sophia credits so I can transfer them in before I start.
The first post in this forum said I should do all that before I even apply. Ugh!
But I have NOT talked to any enrollment counselors yet or transferred my high school transcripts yet. A call from my "Enrollment Specialist" is scheduled for next week. Since I haven't talked to any enrollment counselors yet and I haven't sent high school transcript yet, can I just cancel call appointment/ignore them, and keep doing Sophia?
I haven't received anything official yet, just a link to schedule a talk with an enrollment counselor, who according to this forum, probably doesn't even work for UMPI. I'm an older student who graduated high school in 1987, but I have no college degree yet, so I'm assuming they would still need that before I'm officially in. now.
So hoping this mean I can still just keep on rockin' out the sophia courses.
Thanks guys!

I would just cancel the appointment and keep going with Sophia. You can continue to transfer in credits after enrollment, but you'd need permission to do so. As long as you don't transfer in more than 90 credits, permission is generally given. You can also defer enrollment to give you more time to work on alt-credit courses. Since you only have 28 Sophia credits, I would suggest deferring enrollment by one session, rather than trying to do both UMPI and Sophia/SDC at the same time.

You don't need to ever speak with an enrollment counselor. They're not UMPI employees. They're salespeople who don't know much about YourPace.

Thank you, good to know. I cancelled the appointment and I'll just reach out to UMPI directly once I get more Sophia credits racked up!

- You are permitted to bring in up to 90 credits.
- Any or all of those credits can be ACE.
- Most students will likely transfer in 72-84 credits.
- Take English Composition classes at UMPI. They're faster and easier than any known alternate source.
- You will need two sciences, one must be with a lab. See below for the easiest ways to do that.
- You will need at least 3 credits of a foreign language. Sophia's Spanish I is currently the best/fastest way to do this. If you are going for a History degree, you will need 6 credits in foreign language. In that case, you will also need Sophia's Spanish II. For any degrees, if you already know a foreign language that is not Spanish, choose either a CLEP exam or an ACTFL exam for credits.
- Do not expect to finish your degree in one session (2 months). Some people can, but most do not. Expect 2-4 sessions to finish your degree.
- Once you apply and are accepted, you are automatically enrolled and you MUST obtain permission from your advisor to transfer in additional classes. This is usually not a problem, but it is still a good idea to wait to apply until you have completed all of the courses that you plan to transfer to UMPI.
- UMPI's Enrollment Counselors are PAID TO GET PEOPLE TO APPLY! They don't work for UMPI. They are contractors. Do NOT apply until you are ready. The enrollment counselors can be pushy and may say a lot of things to try to get you to apply immediately. Don't listen! If you have questions, start a new thread here. The current students and alumni here will be able to answer most questions you might have about the process at UMPI.
UMPI Science Requirements
UMPI requires a Biological Science and a Physical Science. At least one must have a lab. Currently, the easiest/cheapest ways to do this include:
Suggestion #1:
- Biology: Human Biology at Sophia.
- Physical Science: Environmental Science at Sophia
- Lab Science: Human Biology Lab at Sophia
Suggestion #2:
- Biology: Human Biology at Sophia.
- Physical Science: Intro to Chemistry at Sophia
- Lab Science: Human Biology Lab at Sophia
Suggestion #3:
- Biology: Human Biology at Sophia.
- Physical Science: Intro to Chemistry at Sophia
- Lab Science: Intro to Chemistry Lab at Sophia
Suggestion #4:
- Biology: Biology 101L at Study.com
- Physical Science: Environmental at Sophia
- Lab Science: Biology 101L (lab and course are taken together at Study.com)
These are NOT the only ways to meet this requirement. Example: A student has previously taken an Astronomy course from a brick & mortar school. They would then just need to take Sophia's Human Biology. Whether they also need the lab or not would depend on whether the Astronomy course had a lab. Hello,
On other parts of the forum (older posts) I have seen users comment that the Sophia science classes listed here do not transfer to UMPI. Is that no longer the case? I have done some searching but have bot found a clear answer yet. Thank you.

Sophia science classes have always transferred to UMPI. Not sure what you're reading. There's a lab requirement and Sophia recently added labs for the bio and chem courses.

What ss20ts said, Sophia.org can now be the 'All In One' provider for transferring up to 90 credits towards the main institutions we recommend such as UMPI. It really depends on which degree you're going for and provider you want to use, some like Sophia.org for everything lower level and use other ACE options for upper level requirements.

Any updates?
Did you postpone the enrollment?
I haven't apply myself yet as I want to work on my Sophia course but I'm also trying to figure out which courses they will accept from my AS degree.

Is using the UMPI enrollment counselor the only way to apply?
Also, would the enrollment counselor start the process to collect transcripts?
Thank you!
