Double minor
#1
Is it better to have two BLS minors in unrelated fields such as Bachelors of liberal studies with a minor in education and accounting or would it be better to do something like BA in accounting and BLS in education? I have already spoken to my student advisor and both of things are possible.

The accounting course load for a BLS minor in accounting is nothing like that of the accounting course demands that a BA in Accounting has.  If your goal is to be an accountant then the BA in Accounting or a BABA with Accounting, not a BLS with accounting. The two minors you're looking at are at opposite ends of the spectrum professionally from each other - what is your goal with the degree? One degree that meets your goal is always better than two degrees that don't.

What's your end goal? These 2 fields aren't related. You can't complete a BA then a BLS at UMPI. You could complete the BA in Accounting and the Educational Studies Minor. This particular minor is very long. Many students change minors because it takes multiple sessions and the professor is particularly anal.

ETA: I completed my BLS first. I did 3 minors, but they are all related so they make sense career wise.

I am in my final term of BLS minor in education. In Texas, this would allow me to sit for the state teacher's examination and start teaching right away with a salary. Being a public teacher has been my goal I have been working towards for two years. I will be finished with BLS minor in education in a matter of weeks.
Now that the time has come, my spouse extremely worried due to the uptick in violence in Houston schools. My spouse is funding my education and said they would continue to fund it if I decided to choose a different path for safety reasons. Accounting is something I've always been interested in. There are many jobs available in my area. I could start right away. After further research Im sure I need the BA in Accounting to qualify for the Texas CPA exam.

I was doing bls in education at umpi so i could sit for Texas teacher's exam. I have just a couple of classes left to complete. Due to the increased violence in schools in my area, I have decided not to sit for the exam and start teaching. Accounting is something I'm interested in and has high job availability in my area. I've decided to finish this term out and move on to BA in accounting.

Great stuff, after you've provided more details, you now really know the path you need to get things done. Finish your BLS Education Minor and then go for the BA Accounting! You got this BLS done, adding the minor wouldn't be sufficient to continue towards the Texas CPA exam unless it just requires 18 credits. I think most states require 30 credits in Accounting to hit the exam, so, if you know the number of credits, 18 (BLS minor), 24 (BABA Accounting), 30 (BA Accounting), you'll know which degree to go for as the second degree.

With this added information, I would apply for the BA in Accounting. You will first need to graduate so there will be a break between degrees. Your BLS will need to be conferred before you can start the BA. I would apply now for it since conferring degrees has been taking 6+ weeks. You will need to apply on the UMPI website for the BA in Accounting. You will not have to complete the GEC again. You'll just have to complete the major requirements of the BA. Your electives are also completed. You have to complete a minimum of new 30 credits at UMPI for the BA - nothing from the BLS will count in that 30 credits. Let me know if you have any questions. I did the BLS then my BABA at UMPI.

ETA: A minor in accounting most likely will not lead to employment because you'll be competing against people who have degrees in accounting.

At UMPI can you get a BA in Accounting and just add on the Education minor (since those courses are already completed), rather than getting two separate degrees? You're going to need more than just the BA Accounting courses to sit for the CPA exam in TX, be sure to work towards what you need for to meet the requirements (such as Business courses for your electives in the BLS if that is the route you go) - https://www.becker.com/cpa-review/texas-...quirements. I also wish you well in becoming a teacher if that is your true goal, the world needs more good teachers.

Do the BA in Accounting, you'll be much better off with that. While you wait for your BLS/Edu to be conferred, you're going to want to get alt-credit, because this major is VERY long - 81cr. So, go to Sophia and do everything you can there, and then go to SDC and finish there.

Sophia
Intro to Business
Macroeconomics
Microeconomics
Business Communication

SDC
ACC 101: Financial Accounting
ACC 102: Managerial Accounting (this won't count, but will make further courses easier)
ACC 201: Intermediate Accounting I
ACC 202: Intermediate Accounting II
ACC 301: Applied Managerial Accounting
ACC 302: Advanced Accounting

This leaves you with 18 courses to complete at UMPI. Optional, but recommended if you want to spend less time at UMPI:
BUS 312: Advanced Operations Management
BUS 310: Advanced Business Ethics
BUS 303: Management Information Systems
BUS 313: Organizational Communication

This still leaves you with 14 courses to complete at UMPI, but that's better than any other option I think.

If you have time, I'd prob also take a Computers course if you haven't already, and maybe Business 348: Cost Accounting since that's super relative to a lot of what you might do in accounting as a career. Maybe a Finance course. Brush up on Excel if you don't have experience with it.

Is SDC study? Thanks for your post. It is very helpful?

Just to clarify, the professor of accounting or educational studies is anal?
