JWMI MBA Program - My experience so far
#11
I finished course #3 a week or so ago. I have a 4.0 GPA so far. The 10 week terms seem to work for me. The school allows four courses for transfer, so I am keeping my eyes peeled for free/cheap courses that could transfer. I found one school that offers one "free" course through my employer's perks. Of course, that "free" course also has about $500 in other fees. I guess overall, that still could save me about $1000.

If anyone knows of any other MBA related courses that will be free or super cheap, let me know. I am still trying to determine if any of the 100 ML courses would work.

Coppersmith has business courses rated for Grad level at NCCRS. Idk but I think Stryaer is NCCRS list. You'd have to ask if they accept it.

Also if they free course is though a certain for profit school whose name starts with D. Don't do it!! And if its another school proceed with caution.

I worked a job where I got a free course with them. I did it and it was horrible. Course was not good quality and did not transfer to CC, 4 yr UNI or TESU. (Transferred to all but only as free elective despite course number and name supposedly seeming like it would work). I had more than enough free electives. By the time I figured this out I was informed if I dropped the class I'd have to pay the full tution. So I stuck it out and did the bare minmum work since there was not point and somehow failed despite I should have gotten a C- according to my calculations but I didn't care or want to deal with the horrible communciation. And not mention in order to take the free course I had to meet with an enrollment and listen to them pitch me how it would "only" be $30k to finish my bachelors. I was told I first person they ever heard of to only do the free course. Apprarently others had done the course but took a larger load (ex 3 courses but only had to pay for 2 cause first one is free). They never heard of a case like me so they werent willing to help me that much.

I never paid a dime for the course. But now I have to $20 everytime I appy for any grad school or more undergrad fo comply with clearing house standards to send a pointless 3cr F grade.

Thanks for the heads up.  I am sure it is the same school.  I did check with my advisor to see if the course would transfer, and they said that it would.  I also was honest with the enrollment guy at "D."   I told him that I am in an MBA program, and when I saw the opportunity to take a free course, I thought it could be beneficial.  He didn't make any indication that it was unusual.  When enrolling, he said I did have to pick "something" to enroll as a student.  He seems to understand that I am most likely going to be "one and done."

I am curious about the full tuition if you dropped.  Was that after a certain date?  I don't recall that information being shared with me.  My class will start on May 1st.  The syllabus is supposed to be available two weeks prior to that - which is when I will be able to compare it to the equivalent course better.

Idk maybe drops is different. I wanted to take W. I was told if I took the W I'd have to pay full price. So obviously even an F is better than a $1000+ W.

In hindsight I should have done my research before signing up that the course would transfer instead of assuming. I reached out to the schools after I was already enrolled in the course. I was trying to get a certificate from CC (I just so happened to have the rest of the cert done) and have it count toward my bachelors degree too and also TESU as a backup in case I went that route.

This was a few years ago but not expect a lot in terms of course quality or online portal usability.

Yeah I think it is federal policy bon degree students can't get aid. But really simple you jsut pick a program. I did the same thing. I picked a degree I wasnt going to get.

Also did you see my post about coppersmith? Maybe look into that. Also statsitcs.com but idk how relevant thar would be.

Well, I am starting week three of this class at the "other" school. Many things are impressive. They have a lot of really nice student perks. I am enjoying checking it all out. They have great alum benefits too. I wouldn't mind being an alumnus if it were cheaper.

The course itself has some downsides. The initial discussion question post must be a video or audio recording. I am not a fan of this at all. First, since I had COVID in March, I still cough sometimes... especially if I talk a lot. Second, I'd have to watch/listen to a lot of people to find something to respond to. This takes a lot more time than reading posts... I can scan written posts and determine what I can respond well to. There are 40 students in the class. The overall course load is more significant. For example, this week, we have a discussion question worth 30 points (three total posts) and two activities about 35 points each. Plus, part one of our project (100 points). Hopefully, I can keep up. Luckily, I have vacation time I need to use in June!

It makes me like the JWMI program a bit more, and after this, I will probably return to my plan of two courses a year. Let's hope I can finish this one with an A or B so it will transfer, and I won't have to retake it at JWMI later.

I finished the one free course at DeVry. The course was good.  But they are way too expensive.
I’m a little more than halfway through my degree program at JWMI. I’m on the super slow route, since my tuition reimbursement is really low.  I do other free learning in between classes since I have free access to Sophia, Coursera, and LinkedIn Learning.  Plus the 100 million learners certificate. I really like the long breaks, but there are times I kinda want to speed up. Luckily, I don’t need the degree at the moment.  I have a good job with good pay that I like.  I started this degree to hopefully give me an edge in case I find myself out of a job in the future. (Been through several company closings and downsizing over the years).

I applied for Strayer MS in Accounting Taxation. They're trying to sell me hard on the Jack Welch MBA. They will waive three courses because I'm a CPA.

That seems like a stretch to go from Accounting to the MBA.  There’s really not much finance in it especially for a CPA.  It’s a good program if your goal is an MBA.  It also includes Grammarly Premium, WSJ subscription, LinkedIn Learning,  Sophia (but not useful for graduate credits), and I think my free coursera account is through them (not sure on that one).  The focus leans more toward leadership, communication, and general business concepts.  There’s nothing so far that suggests extensive knowlege in accounting or taxation.
