Hi!
I am finishing my first semester at UMPI Your Pace thanks to this forum for the discovery.
I originally enrolled for a BLS-Management as many had said it was the fastest and easiest route to degree completion. They enrolled me in Leadership and Project Management for my first semester, I had to withdraw from Project Management as it is not in my wheelhouse for work, and I learned absolutely nothing from the course itself, the final was a 20 page paper. I have heard it is much easier on Sophia.
With that said my only purpose in trying to get my BLS done so quickly is to be able to enroll in a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy so I can become an LMFT, I would need to apply by August to begin in September at Mercy College in NY which is one of the only programs available.
I am now wondering if Educational Studies would be a better fit than Management minor? I have been working in Learning and Development for 15 years, I am a Certified Coach and Facilitator. Additionally, I have taught special needs in equine assisted therapy and my purpose in becoming an LMFT is to be able to have more opportunity to work in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy for which I am certified, however I practice as a Coach on as a Therapist.
Also this will leave me with 9 classes to take at UMPI...my question is which is faster/easier Management or Educational Studies? And Would 9 courses would you recommend? I am trying to get this completed by May and or in time for August masters application.
I currently have:
SJU Transfer Credits:
English I (3)
Business Law I (3)
Intro to Business (3)
Theology (3)
College Experience (1)
= 13 credits
PLA:
= 30 credits
Sophia Learning: Currently 10/ 47 credits
1. Spanish I (3) complete
2. Communication at Work (3) complete
3. Psych 101 (3) complete
4. Building Effective Teams (1) complete
= 10 credits
Total: 53 credits, 56 once my Leadership at UMPI is graded
Thank You,
CC

If I am understanding this correctly, you did not transfer 90 credits to UMPI before enrolling? That's typically what we advise so you can focus on your UMPI courses. I remember asking you which project management course you were taking when you posted on here before looking for help, but you didn't respond. There are 3 project management courses. If it is BUS141 then everything needed is in the course content. It's a 15-20 page project plan not a 20 page paper for the Final Assessment. Since you won't be taking BUS400 or BUS 401, then yes the course on Sophia will be easier. You will need permission from your academic advisor to transfer the course in. Have you completed the GEC? The 24 UL credits? The minor course requirements? The Education Studies Minor is not easy! I have not seen anyone complete all of the courses for it in 1 session. I have only seen a handful of people complete it as most change to the Management Minor because it's easier and faster.

@ss20ts Can you please share additional particulars on why the Educational Studies minor is 'not easy'? I guess it has heavier (longer) writing assignments; however, this is just a guess. Thank you for any details.

I have read from people in the program that the assignments are long and complicated. There are a lot of Milestones which are like papers in that program. The professor is really picky from what I have read. The classes are all writing and no exams. Given some of the topics, I can see why the assignments are long and challenging.

Thanks. If the milestones are heavy and, at times, get pushback from the professor, I could see a lot of frustration with the minor.

I agree. I am strongly considering not taking Education Studies as one of my double minors. Initially, I plan on doing a double minor: Education Studies and Management. Hopefully, someone who has taken Education Studies or is currently taking Education Studies responds.

Hi! Apologies for missing your replies, I used to receive email notifications and when I didn't receive any I thought no one had replied to my threads!
I did not transfer 90 prior, Jessica advised me I could do both. It is what it is now. I withdrew from Project Management on Friday due to lack of time to complete final and will take it on Sophia...however I DO have to take Operations Management with UMPI...which is another course that feels out of my scope of experience.
What I must take at UMPI if I stay with Management Minor:
1. BUS 260 ENROLLED
2. MINOR COURSEat 300/400 Level- BUS 321
3. MINOR COURSE at 300/400 Level-BUS 415
4. MINOR COURSE at 300/400 Level- BUS 352 or BUS 353
5. GEC or Elective Course-
6. GEC or Elective Course-
7. GEC or Elective Course
8. GEC or Elective Course
9. GEC or Elective Course
10. GEC or Elective Course
I have 12 Required courses remaining (ENG 121, POS 101, PHI 152, ENG 211, MAT 140,BIO 105, ENV 110, GEO 101, HTY 116, BUS 321, BUS 415, BUS 352 or 353) and 9 three credit general electives for a total of 21 which will bring to 120 credits.

If you're going to do PM at Sophia, I would go ahead and get permission to fill in the remaining GEC requirements from Sophia, too. Assuming, of course, that you will still be completing at least 30 UMPI credits.
In progress:
TESU - BA Computer Science; BSBA CIS; ASNSM Math & CS; ASBA
Completed:
Pierpont - AAS BOG
Sophia (so many), The Institutes (old), Study.com (5 courses)
ASU: Human Origins, Astronomy, Intro Health & Wellness, Western Civilization, Computer Appls & Info Technology, Intro Programming
Strayer: CIS175, CIS111, WRK100, MAT210

Yes all other GEC will be done at Sophia, it is only 12 credits of the minor that have to be done at UMPI and 30 credits total...I will have 3 credits this semester once I hand in my Leadership course final.
And looking to take 9 courses between Jan and May while concurrently working my way through the remaining 12 on Sophia.

Hi,
I finished the BLS with education studies and the management minor in August 2022! Overall, I found the education courses to more challenging and more work than the management courses despite the fact I have much more experience in education than management. My only B- was an education minor course. I was also quite frustrated that in that class the teacher returned my draft saying "well done!" without suggestions, but then gave me a B-. Overall, I found the management courses to be more straight forward and clearly defined. I was also able to transfer some of the management minor courses to the MAOL, which I just finished this session. Otherwise, it would have taken me another session. I am trying to upload a copy of my transcript to show you, but it is too large.

Of all of the Management minor courses, I found the Operations course final to be the most difficult. That final is a case study on company that is already an industry leader in a specialized sector. You must use what you learned throughout the course to make suggestions to the company which I felt quite silly attempting to. I just did my best to include lots of the course content and ended up with an A, but I told my spouse that I literally felt like I was a rubber band stretching to try to make concepts applicable.
