Can I add a minor after the fact?
#1
Hey all, I graduated a couple of years ago with my Bachelors in Applied Science and minor in Political Science as well as Social Studies. I don't know how it got lost along the way but it seems that I have met all the requirements for the Pre-Law minor and was never awarded it. I had every intention of getting the minor and distinctly remember taking a course just to check the last box, yet somehow it only dawned on me now that it's not on my transcript. Since my degree has long been conferred, would it be too late to ask UMPI to add on the minor to my transcript?

If it is indeed too late I suppose it's not the end of the world. I'm exactly 30 credits away from the BA in History & Political Science and have been looking for something to do.

If you graduated a couple of years ago, did you actually request the minor to be added to your degree program? Taking a courses doesn't add a minor to your degree program. I do not believe you can go back and add a minor now. It would be different if you just had your degree conferred for Fall 2 2024 and had an email to show that you requested the minor to be added to your degree program. When you applied for graduation that was the time to make sure you had everything correct - degree, major, minors, courses, etc.

If you really want to get the 2nd BA... I would complete more transfer credits, you don't need another 30 residency credits for the second bachelors, you just need the classes completed for the major, they can be transferred in. For example, if you only need 4 classes for the second bachelors, and you can finish 4 classes in 4 weeks, you can add the 4 classes that go towards the MAOL, thus 8 classes in 8 weeks for $1700.

I believe I did, I didn't do anything extra for the others. I doubt I'd be able to prove it though.

I thought the 30 credits residency requirement was for every additional degree? I also maxed out my 90 transfer credits already from the first degree. You have peeked my interest!!

When I completed my second bachelor's degree I was required to complete an additional 30 credits at UMPI after my first degree was conferred. I completed 16 courses at UMPI for my first bachelor's and 10 for my second.

Basically, I was thinking that too... But this has been talked about earlier last month, there may have been some changes done recently to the requirements. Link: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...University

Or it was a fluke. That happens occasionally.

This is true, although it does appear that UMPI is currently interpreting the residency requirement policy as once per student, not once per degree. I would personally interpret it as once per degree, so I wouldn't be surprised if their interpretation changes in the future. However, for now this is a huge advantage to anyone who wants to complete more than one degree at UMPI. It could even open up more possibilities for degrees that are not available through YP. For example, is it possible to earn the Computer Science degree today by transferring in all the courses??
