Are you trying to find out if WES would evaluate a degree from GCU as a legitimate and accredited US degree?

If that's the case, see rachel83az's original message and this part of bjcheung77's post:

Thank you for clearing that out. The problem is the marketing team on some sites outside US/Canada like to put stuff like this. So i indulged it

They have very few degrees - business-related ones & psych I think, and then they have a law school.  They are well-regarded in CA, especially in the SF Bay Area where I lived.

Back in the day, they were one of the very few local schools that did not operate on a semester-based system, which was great, because I cannot do semesters - they just drag on and on.  Once I found them, my GPA jumped considerably.

They also take 90cr of transfer, and accept ACE credit.  They have a program with Study.com called GGU Aspire, so the 30cr there is only $9,000.

No idea what they're like now, especially regarding online.  But they've been around for a long time, and still seem to be here, so I think their reputation is intact.

I second this. One of my siblings attended this school and she absolutely loved it. She was in one of the business programs, and there is sort of a close-knit community feeling among the students. The professors and the administrators were all very helpful and she didn't have any complaints at all about anything there. She even still regularly communicates with some of her ex-professors.

Reputation-wise, they are strongly regarded in California, especially in the Bay Area. It's a relatively small school, so I would imagine that most graduates probably stay in California, so I don't think they'd have much of a reputation outside of California. I'm not sure. In the Bay Area though, I've seen many in leadership positions, so no need to worry about reputation.

I know this thread is a couple months old but...

Were you/your friend looking to increase CRS scores for Canada's Express Entry? WES lists GGU and all the certs and degrees offered on UpGrad by GGU. I just logged-in and checked it.

Hey, yes he was getting the idea as it was told to him by staff from upgrad. Thoe what is not told is that you need to finish the program. As a lot of people expressed concern and me digging more into upgrad, red flags started to show up on how exactly the said program is conducted.

I would tread carefully when dealing with these type of programs that are outsourced to education platforms. Their is a lot of misleading and implying going on.
And a good Wall Street peace has recently shined a lot about the problems;

UpGrad courses from GGU & LJMU are legit though - you can search the CanadaVisa forums for positive WES reports of the Liverpool John Moores University's masters that's offered on UpGrad.

For the WSJ article, yeah the content for a lot of these online programs is created by private entities and not by professors. Doesn't mean the credential is invalid. If you're doing a masters or a pg cert or pg dip for immigration and only immigration, then quality of the content doesn't matter that much. What matters is the validity of the credential and that it's affordable/easy/fast (depending on your priorities)...

And let's be honest here - it's not like content created by professors or university staff is guaranteed to be good.

Not sure what do you mean when you say "legit" what do you imply by those words. And it is kinda early to say anything about GGU since the program was lunched 3 months ago by UpGrad, to sing praises. Regarding LJMU i've read other problems people encountered with the programs all related on UpGrad's side of things. (review pages and court reports by people with their experience with upgrad)
..and these two link's just from this year state/provide insight that something is not quite right with UpGrad;
https://www.news18.com/news/education-ca...83983.html
https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/indi...463310.cms
..and as i have posted in a different thread the notice from UGC India from 16.01.2022. regarding misleading tactics by edtech from India and the partnered Institutions.

"And let's be honest here - it's not like content created by professors or university staff is guaranteed to be good."
This is a common discussion and clash on this forum, what should and Institution be. I am in the camp you should learn and be prepared by said (higher education university/college) institution for the labor market you are finishing your degree (speaking from a young persons point of view, looking for bachelor, master degree type of programs, to provide more context, and right there is the biggest trap UpGrad and 2U type of companies abuse) .. right there is a big problem regarding these proxy like higher education business, it has been reported that the program/curriculum is very bleak, bad. "Professors" seem to be ether a freshman, or at some times people with no academic background what so ever just passing on pdf files, and prerecorded video's to given an impression of an "online" college.
I would also argue the materials provided by generations in public schools and funding is by far superior in case of bachelor, master type of programs. Business type of programs for mba's not soo much, but you would also want good networking and reliable alumni.

Well, your original post in this thread asked about their accreditation and WES equivalency (for Canada, presumably). It's legit in the sense that it's an RA-accredited institution and WES will recognize a GGU Masters from Upgrad (or any other platform) to be equivalent to a Canadian Masters.

I'm not singing it's praises - I don't even know about the course content, but whether it's 3 or however many months old is irrelevant for the purposes of accredition and WES.

WES treats American and British credentials very differently from Indian credentials. For Canadian equivalency of American universities, WES only cares if the institution is regionally-accredited. That's it. You can complete a BABA from UMPI in 4 months and WES will absolutely recognize it to be equivalent to a 4-year Canadian Bachelors, for e.g.
