Graduation deadlines (Need 100 credits to enroll in capstone)
https://www.tesu.edu/current-students/gr...nformation
You will finish the 3-month TESU term by Aug 1st and that's the deadline all your courses should be transferred in as well.
Questions for you amazing people:
1. Are the classes I have planned out to finish my degree the fastest way possible? Any other classes that would be faster/easier (I understand easier is relative). I just started my SDC $200 month this week. So I still have three weeks left to finish those other 3 classes on SDC. Speed doesn't matter, you got plenty of time so pick the courses you like. You could pay for 1 more month of SDC and it would only cost you $60 more which is nothing.
2. Should I switch back to my Accounting degree and take longer to complete my BSBA? I feel if I am going for my MBA, I can just complete my BSBA in Gen Management and move forward with the MBA. Anyone else in a similar situation? I don't want to hurt my chances for other jobs by not getting my Accounting degree. I feel with my years of experience and a MBA I should be competitive in the workforce. For accounting, I'm thinking more in terms of being a CPA which requires a 150 credit degree to be licensed. You said you have 15yrs experience in accounting, that is what will get you hired over the degree. Certainly, with an MBA, you'll be competitive. I would also look to see if there are any certifications that fit well with your career.
3. Recommendations for MBA programs? I am looking at WGU but I want to make sure I wont have to take any other prereqs and can hopefully speed through it. Please advise if I would need to take any other classes to get in the MBA program. I'm looking at WGU for speed and Purdue Global if I want a brand name degree. I'm looking at an MBA since that's my area of expertise and the other master's MSML or MAOL aren't as well known. Thank you for this feedback! I learned about MSML and MAOL on this forum. I think I still want the MBA as it lines up with the jobs I would be going after. Do you know any certs in Accounting? What are their names or where could I get them from? Certs would be an excellent item to add to my resume.
I will look into Purdue Global. Not very familiar with them. I am paying for the MBA out of pocket so I am trying to do it on the lower end if possible.
Thank you again!

1) I would not worry about the concentration, as I don't think it's super important. Also, you would lose ALL of the credits currently in the AoS, since 2 of the Accounting courses are LL, and Int Accounting I & II are LL and required - so you'd have to take 6 AoS courses for the ACC concentration. Not worth it I don't think.
2) Have TESU move FIN200: Intro to Finance Harves (FIN-301) to the AoS, then take a LL finance course for the core (either SDC's FIN 104: Financial Management or Sophia's Principles of Finance).
3) This leaves only 2 UL courses in the AoS. You already have 3 of 4 areas covered, so I would take 2 UL accounting courses since that's what you're good at. SDC has 3 to choose from, ICC has 1.
Then, go get your Masters in Accounting instead of an MBA. It will be more bang for your buck with your current career, and no downside to it if you move up as you go (you will not get "dinged" for having a MA in Accounting rather than an MBA). I'd do WGU.
Thank you!
This is the main reason why I switched to Gen Man as opposed to Accounting. I would need to take more classes and a lot of my electives would not be transferred into the Accounting degree.
I will most def ask TESU to see if they could move the FIN200 class over! I still have a few days left on my sophia subscription. I could go knock out that other class in a few days.
What is ICC?
Great point about getting a Masters in Accounting as opposed to a MBA. I will look into that as well.
Thanks again!

Hey, got your PM. Thank you so much! You can apply to the MBA at WGU as that's the main recommendation, they also have the MAcc Accounting or MSML Management & Leadership if you want to specialize in those. If your main preference is an MBA, stick to it, as having a Masters in something else such as Accounting, Management & Leadership, Organizational Leadership, etc are secondary to your current goal... You can again supplement your BSBA with the Accounting cert and call it a day...

My question would be Would you be able to get into a ms accounting program without an undergrad in accounting ? That is without taking a bunch of prerequisites anyway ?

I forgot about that. A "bachelor's in accounting" and a "BSBA w/Accounting Concentration" are not the same thing. So I would contact WGU and specifically ask about that.
But I still think someone with 15 years of experience in Accounting is better off with a MA in Accounting than an MBA. It's a more valuable degree for many. It also allows you to get your CPA. So I'd probably get that BSBA/Acc if they'll take that in lieu of a Bachelor's in Accounting.

Honestly, I dont think I want a MS in Accounting. I think the MBA with a cert in Accounting should suffice my needs. Plus I feel I can get this done quickly and graduate with my BSBA in sept and if I work really hard, possibly have my MBA with WGU in one term.
Thank you for your reply!

I dont think I will be going for my CPA but having the option is not a bad thing.
I looked at Sophia Princles of Finance Accounting and it would transfer in as ACC 101 and I already have that class applied with one of my UOP classes. So I think I will still need to take a finance class somewhere else (probably study.com or Davar).
Thank you for your input. This helps a lot!

Do you know if I can apply for the MBA at WGU if all I have left is my capstone? Or do I need to wait until my BSBA is complete to apply for the MBA at WGU?
Also where could I get the cert in accounting from? Do you have a name for the cert?
Thank you!

You can add the certificate in accounting from TESU after you get your BSBA-GM. Yes, you would have to pay the certificate residency waiver (currently $1250 for certificates, but it looks like you may be exempt from that based on your previous post). You are allowed to use any of the accounting credits you earned in the BSBA-GM towards it (although you will have to ask TESU to move the credits there, they don't do so automatically - due to they assume the way the residency works). https://www.tesu.edu/business/undergradu...accounting
Since you're paying out of pocket for the MBA you may want to look at the Hellenic American University (HAU) MBA - it is currently still only $3k for the entire program for US Students. Now it is slower than WGU (if you can complete it in one term - 6 months), but it is a steal for an RA MBA degree, and courses are quick moving at 7 weeks each (for almost all). https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...ersity-HAU

So an MBA it is. But this may mean that the CPA is out, as you may not have enough Accounting credits to sit for it. Prob not a big deal if you want to continue to work in Corporate accounting anyway.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sophia has Accounting (ACC-101, which you already took another way) and Principles of Finance (which you need). These are 2 separate courses.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think you cannot apply to WGU until you have your Bachelor's degree. I think you even have to have it conferred, which means the graduation date.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Regarding the Certificate in Accounting, vs. the Accounting concentration, it's 6 of 1, half dozen of the other. There's no extra cost for the Cert since you're already an enrolled student.
For the General Management concentration, you need 2 more UL courses, so let's go with SDC's ACC 301: Applied Managerial Accounting and ACC 302: Advanced Accounting. That concentration is done. Then, for the Undergrad Certificate in Accounting, you need Intermediate Accounting I & II (also available at SDC).
For the Accounting concentration, you need Intermediate Accounting I & II (which you would take for the Acc Cert) and 4 UL courses. You take SDC's ACC 301: Applied Managerial Accounting and ACC 302: Advanced Accounting (which you would take for the Acc Cert). That leaves 2 UL accounting courses. Take ACC 303: Cost Accounting from SDC and Managerial Accounting from ICC which comes in as ACC-312. So only 2 extra courses from what you would have done anyway.
Not a huge difference, either in time or price.
I would probably go ahead and do the concentration, but you can always wait until the very end to decide. If you are ready to take the capstone, and have taken all of the courses you need for the GM Concentration and the Cert in Accounting, you can decide then to change to the Accounting concentration and take the final 2 courses if you want to.
I'm guessing that the last UL course from SDC will be very easy to finish because there will be overlap (as you complete courses, anything that applies to another course show up as completed already). So as you complete Intermediate I & II (which have overlap in and of themselves) and then the next UL one, there will be overlap, and then the next will have more, and so on. It may be 70% or 80% complete at that point.
And then, how easy will it be to finish the ICC course when you've done all those courses PLUS have 15 years of experience? Crazy easy.

I dont think TESU will accept Principles of Finance from Sophia. Can anyone confirm? When I login to Sophia, it only has three business courses that go with TESU (Accounting, Intro to Business and Project Management). If I am doing this wrong or not seeing it, please let me know.
Thank you for this info! This is great!

Are you using the school-specific or general Sophia website?
Either way, the stated equivalency is FIN-200 (Principles of Finance): https://tesu.sophia.org/online-courses/p...of-finance

I am using the school specific for TESU for Sophia.
If its not listed on the school specific site, that means it doesnt transfer over right?
Please let me know if I am wrong.
Thank you!
