That's for the Charter Oak State College Foundation, Inc. That's the donation/fundraiser/scholarship arm of the college. They actually did pretty well in 2020 and 2021, receiving no recommendations for improvement.

I couldn't find one for Charter Oak State College after the one I posted. That may be a terrible sign lol.

Jeez what a clown show. I'm almost a little embarrassed to have gone to that school if it's that dysfunctional. They were so cool and supportive back when I was enrolled. It's a really sad turn of events.

John Bear, who wrote the Bears' Guides to distance learning that were staples of libraries and bookstores for a quarter century and spiritual precursors to DegreeForum, told a story that I hope I'm doing justice. He recalled that when he was a student of journalism an investigative journalism instructor told the class that they could go into any establishment in town, even the simplest shop, and eventually find a story that would make the front page of the newspaper.

Something happened in six-figure tendering or five-figure hiring at college that a public-sector auditor can raise questions about? In a certain light that's big news. In another light, don't similar things happen at most colleges and most institutions like them?

They absolutely happen at other institutions, and more severe instances at that.

The point I was trying to make is they should not be whining and complaining to students about the program they set up when they have area to make improvements to their financial situation. When your total operating budget is 2.1m, going 75k over budget on a project makes a difference. Having no inventory system for your supplies makes a difference. Nepotism that potentially affects the quality of your overpriced program makes a difference.

Really it’s just upsetting that they would be so unprofessional as to tell a potential student that people following the rules the college set out is unfair. That’s the lamest thing I’ve ever heard. Don’t complain to students. Fix it.

So, yes, I’ll post their dirty laundry and hold them accountable for their mistakes even if other institutions do the same and worse.

It would be unfair to potential students not to.

A college should be able to add limits to what credits it accepts. I say this having 'lost' alt-credits in such changes (at Charter Oak). I have a fairness claim in the issue as a student using alt-credit, but so do other stakeholders have fairness claims, including students using less alt-credit or none, and accreditors and regulators.

Sure, they have the right to make these changes. We can also disagree with those changes and vent our frustration with them.

They do have the right to do whatever they like with their policies, as long as it's legal. I don't think anyone in this thread was suggesting otherwise. We also have a right to criticize their decision making skills and mismanagement, especially when it's part of the public record, and especially when they want to talk about needing money.

I haven't seen Charter Oak "talk about needing money," though.

Except for only one or two words quoted directly, the COSC advisor described in the first post in thread isn't quoted directly. They're only paraphrased. It seems to me the paraphrase may be interspersed with background information, like the price of a COSC course, that may well have been added by the poster.
