Well said. I am a bit bias, I suppose. But,  the alumni network in CUNY is very strong as well. No matter what campus you attended, John Jay, CCNY, SPS, Lehman, etc... it's all CUNY at the end of the day. One of my previous senior managers was a John Jay alumni and was very supportive of CUNY students looking for opportunities. He was very instrumental in my hire and mentorship. I also believe it is also about what you make out of one's opportunities and time. I knew students from CUNY who never put forth the effort to network and utilize the opportunities they were granted. But, always complained that they couldn't get a job or find a better one.

Hi Guys! I just got my unofficial evaluation last week from CUNY for the BS-IS. My past RA and ACE credits helped a lot and the evaluator noted they will take 102 of my credits. 
I asked if they can somehow consider 3 more credits to utilize the 105-maximum allowed. They said they might once the official evaluation has been made after applying. 
 
My concern is whether I should pick CUNY for BSIS or TESU for BSGM
 
CUNY is reputable but I will likely need 18 credits, including residency if they don’t accept another 3cr transfer.
 
6 courses at CUNY VS 2 courses at TESU.
I have not applied yet at COSC. 
 
 
Cost is not much of a factor because either way, I will have to pay almost the same price range.
I am also qualified for Financial aid if that matters in any way, but not sure how much of it will cover the costs at CUNY. 
 
 
My main issue really is the amount of time I’ll spend at CUNY, which is more reputable VS TESU, which I think seems reputable too. 
I’m not really an IT person too although I did learn a lot from the Google IT coursers program and some IT courses.  
Just the idea of an Info System Capstone scares me more than a Business Capstone. 
A career in both industries is lucrative indeed but the amount of time completing 18 credits plus the capstone discourages me unless I do not need to be?

Systems Analysis & Design (IS 320) 3 credits 
E-Commerce for Info Systems (IS 326) 3 credits 
IS Strategy, Mgmt & Acquisition (IS 350) 3 credits 
Bus Process Design & Workflow Analysis (IS 374) 3 credits
Capstone (IS 499) 3 credits 
 
Track Courses: 15 Credits [Choose MGMT Track or TECH Track]  - got all 12 credits covered in MGMT so that is the last one I would need.
 
Logistics & Supply Chain Management (IS 330) 3 credits

They don't have national reputations let alone global reputations. John Jay is known for criminal justice, and that's about it.

CUNY has the upper hand because it's traditional, and TESU is non-traditional. It makes more sense to go to CUNY when it's cheaper, but it is not world-renowned. I'm in the U.S., but hardly anyone in my region is familiar with CUNY schools outside of John Jay.

If you look at the original post and the flow of discussion, we have been discussing CUNY SPS. However, I mentioned CUNY as whole when it comes to the resources, opportunities and networks. None of what the OP is talking about has to do with a global reputation. 


Yes, certain CUNY campuses are known for a specific departments. Actually, John Jay is top #4 for Criminal Justice programs in the US. To be honest, you don't have adequate knowledge about CUNY to form an opinion and it shows. TESU or any of the big three that the mods push on here is nowhere near world-renowned in terms of rankings. CUNY may not be world-renowned. But, CUNY would be much closer than any of those schools. CUNY does create opportunities for their students to attend ivy league and top programs abroad. CUNY has a plethora of students at Harvard, Yale, Oxford, Cambridge, Columbia and other world-renowned institutions. How many students has TESU or WGU sent to top graduate school programs? (Harvard Extension School doesn't count.) How many students from TESU or WGU are CEOs or senior leaders of start-ups companies worth more than 1 million? 

No, it has nothing to do with non-traditional or traditional educational experiences. CUNY SPS is very non-traditional compared to other CUNY campuses. Mainly because it is designed for working adults with some life experience. I digress. Back to what the OP asked, CUNY SPS is a better option for them because they accept more credits from various means, 109 to be exact. They get access to an affordable education (For the online degrees only, tuition is the same no matter the residency.) for less than $7k. If they qualify for fin aid, it's mostly likely free depending on their personal circumstances. Lastly, they have access to employment opportunities, internships, networking opportunities across the CUNY system.

The only person I care about having an opinion about my degree is HR professionals, senior managers and grad school admission members. Also, FYI I got into Columbia for their Technology Management program. But, I liked the USF program better because my employer pays for MBA programs and it's fully online.

If the OP attends CUNY SPS and puts forth the effort in their professional development, I am confident many doors will be open to them, now and in the future.

Some people genuinely have nothing better to do than to attack others. I don't think it's a paid troll, but I have a few theories about what's going on here and why. The only thing I wonder is how they came across this forum in the first place.

I know all of her nearly 12 hours of login time was spent beating the CUNY drums for enrollment, but damn did they do more harm than good. I'll forever associate CUNY with them now and that isn't a good look.
