Writing Heavy?
#1
Hi! I am absolutely freaking out. I saw elsewhere that if you aren’t a good writer Your Pace may not be the program for you. What would you say your writing skill or comfort level is and how did you manage in the program? I’m scheduled to start classes at the end of the month and need to be realistic about what I can accomplish. Thank you in advance for your responses.

You have an AA - don't scare yourself. Courses at different schools and subjects would be difficult to get used to especially if you're going from a traditional B&M AA to a Competency Based Education degree. If you've done the bulk of your Sophia.org, InstantCert and Study.com, in addition to your AA, you've got the required skills to "accelerate" in a CBE learning environment. I think you'll do fine, don't sweat it... the only thing you need is time management - if you've got other commitments, it'll be slower, so you may want a goal of 2 terms or 3 to finish.

I do like to write, so someone who doesn't can speak to this better... but I think you'll be okay. Something I really like about this program is that they allow you to submit a draft to get the professor's feedback before you submit for grading. All my professors have encouraged students to reach out for questions and gave good feedback on the milestones. This has helped me be well prepared for the final assignments. I think there's a writing center you can get help from also. Best of luck; I'm sure you'll do great.

Get yourself ProWritingAid https://prowritingaid.com/ to help with your papers. Or Grammarly, if you prefer. But I've heard from others that ProWritingAid is generally better and more helpful than Grammarly. I use Grammarly for my forum posts and it sometimes misses things or points out mistakes that aren't mistakes. ProWritingAid is supposed to be much smarter about the whole thing.

I've graduated from UMPI and about 75% of the courses in the business degrees are papers. My papers ranged from 3 to 41 pages with the average being about 10 pages.

I haven't tried ProWritingAid but I use Grammarly. I got a lifetime premium account about 10 years ago for $8. For sure paid off lol.

41 PAGES . Im crying

I think the hardest part for me with writing, is if I have to decide the topic. If someone gives me options or the subject I should be okay but for me to have to decide...thats too overwhelming.
Also the format...I dont know all the "rules" or what the letters mean (AMA) I think that makes me anxious too.

It was 1 class. It was a project that was 41 pages so it was a lot of spreadsheets and charts. It was a project plan for a project management class.

The Final Assessment is given to you. It's a multi page document with instructions and a rubric to follow. You don't just pick random topics out of the thin air.

The business classes are all APA format. Plenty of help with APA format on the web. It's really easy. English uses MLA again plenty of help on the web. No matter where you go to school, you're going to have to write papers. That's what Capstones are at TESU, EC< and COSC. Even many Sophia classes now have papers and essays.
