First, some people actually like working at Walmart. I know one.
Second, some people are working at Walmart specifically for this benefit. I know one of these too.
Third, some people work at Walmart because it's the best job they can get.  They have zero skills. I know many more people like this (they don't specifically work at Walmart, but they work at sucky jobs because they have zero f's to give about anything).

I applied for a Walmart logistics position at a distribution center for my husband at least 10 times before he got in. It was SUPER competitive at the time.  He’s been there for 10 years now, & I’m just now going back to work having been a SAH Mom for those 10 years living on just his income. Everyone knows that teachers don’t get paid enough, but even after this degree is completed & I have all my certifications, I’ll still be making $20k less than he does annually. He’s been there long enough now that he’s worked his way up to a super cushy position & loves it.

When it’s mentioned that he works for Walmart, people kind of scoff as if we’re welfare queens, but it’s a really great job with great benefits. His DC even provides us with entire thanksgiving dinners, family carnival nights & cases of water/emergency supplies during storm season & more recently & unprecedented… cases of TP when you couldn’t find it during the great COVID TP hoard.

Not all positions or stores/DCs are alike.

Yes, not every Walmart job is working at a store as a cashier!  I think people forget that (I do). Thanks for the reminder.

I get notifications for software engineer jobs at Walmart every few months since completing the Google IT Support Cert(which isn't the least bit related to software engineering).

Would love to know the 40 schools.  And seriously, with my “degree”, my average pay has been in the $15 an hour range.  And no education benefits.  I do like my job.   But it is almost worth it to work there part time just to get that Master’s.

I do remember when WAL-Mart first came to town when I was in High School. In the early 90’s.  It was a really hot job for HS kids at $8.00 an hour.  (That was above minimum wage).  I tried to apply there a few times back then but never even got an interview

Yeah I'd love to get some more details on the Target benefits. I'd take a part time job at Target to pay for Masters!
