Capella University vs TESU for BSBA Degree?
#1
Trying to decide between BSBA degree at TESU or Capella University - Flex Option.   Is there a significant amount of writing involved in the upper level business courses?  Are they easier or harder than using Study.com upper level business courses required for TESU?  Is it possible to finish the last 25% of classes required for BSBA in 12 weeks?

So far my son has passed the following CLEP exams:
College Algebra, College Mathematics, PreCalculus, US HIstory 1, Analyzing and Interpreting Literature, American Government, Principles of Macroeconomics.

He has passed the following Sophia Learning courses:
Accounting
Approaches to Studying Religions
Environmental Science
Human Biology
Introduction to Business
Introduction to Ethics
Introduction to Information Technology
Microeconomics
Project Management
Visual Communications
Introduction to Statistics
English Composition 1
Public Speaking
Finance
Business Law

How long it takes to complete courses is different for everyone. We all have different schedules. We all have different skill sets. We all have different amounts of time to dedicate to our studies.

What do you already have in terms of credits? That will help a great deal.

Basically have about 75 credits that consist of the GE requirements + Sophia Accounting, Project Management + Business Law + Finance + Intro to Statistics + Intro to Computers + Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, extra Electives.   The only course missing is English Composition 2 in the GE requirements.

GE reqs for which school? They will have different reqs. TESU is VERY easy to transfer to and complete your 6 credits at TESU. Capella not so much. Every school I have taken UL courses at there is writing involved. What's a significant amount of writing varies form person to person even course to course. At CSU, the longest paper I wrote was over 20 pages and only needed to be 16. I couldn't sop writing and researching my topic - something that was personal to me. I've also had to write 15 page papers and struggled to get to 12 pages because I was just not into the topic, course, instructor, etc.

I know the TESU BSBA degree and GE requirements, but I don't know the Capella ones - so it's impossible to compare.

What you can do though, is create a spreadsheet for each one, and fill in the blanks with the requirements, then cross off what you have completed - then figure out what's left, and the cheapest way to take them.

For TESU, you need English Comp 2, the Diversity requirement, an additional GE, an additional Free Elective, 5 from the Business core, 5 from the AOS, and then the cornerstone & capstone. Assuming you took the 3 GE's and 1 FE from Sophia at $40 each, and the remaining 10 Core/AOS courses from Study.com at $100 each, then your remaining costs would be $7814.

Now, you need to figure out what you need to do at Capella, and how much it will cost to do additional courses at Sophia/Study.com, and then 1 term or 2 terms; then you need to figure out what it would cost if you didn't do any additional courses through outside providers, and just took everything at Capella.

How is Sophia $40 a class? It's $79 a month nowadays. Just trying to figure out the math.

Why Capella? Basically, my recommendation is to just take the current credits and then transfer the credit elsewhere, such as the Big 3 or other competency based degree providers and not complete the degree at Capella because of a few reasons... 1. They're For Profit 2. Expensive (even with discount) 3. Recognition (not really known) 4. Alumni/Networking ability in the future

For the price of the Bachelors by Flexpath if you decide on Capella, I would rather get it from a recognized public/state university such as TESU instead for cheaper too. I mean, I can get 2 associates/2 bachelors for less than this price of Capella's total, in fact it would be roughly $8-9K for the cost, depending on degree you're selecting, my recommendation/verdict is to transfer all courses you can to another program...

Capella accepts lots of Sophia credits. And their courses are similar to Sophia's... so If you're smart enough, you'll be able to get their degree in one FlexPath subscription term after transfer in 90 credits. However, you're right. Capella is less popular than TESU.

When I attended Sophia(2018), my advisor specifically told me to use Sophia courses to pad out my degree. Depending on your Degree they fill a decent amount of spots. I had no idea Capella accepted NA credits, but they do they brought in my veterinary credits from Ashworth and Penn Foster. The real downside to Capella is they are pretty expensive. The courses I took were writing intensive(business degree), so that expected. I stop going because of the price. Under Sophia's current policy if you're a current Capella Student the courses are free to take. I believe (don't quote me on this) it's the same for Strayer students.
