Ohio University Credit-by-Examination
#1
Okay, so I know about CLEP, Dantes, TECEP, and EC exams...but Ohio University exams are new to me. I was just doing a course search on Excelsior's site and decided to filter for exams only, when all of these Ohio University exams came up.

This led me to find their website to learn more:
Ohio University Course Credit by Examination

Did I totally miss something or is this new? I didn't see these mentioned in EC's exam guide. There is an impressive array of courses listed.

I'm awaiting my transcript review at Excelsior, so I don't yet have an advisor to consult. I figured all of you pros on the board would know more.

I edited the Ohio University table to show only the courses for which they offer an exam-only option.

Now, I don't know what Excelsior (or any other college, for that matter) will or won't accept...I just wanted to offer a filtered list for those curious.

This is potentially very valuable information for certain folks. Thank you very much for taking the time to put this customized list together. Some of these exams could be helpful to someone who wants to get their degree quickly and has existing knowledge in the areas of humanities or, specifically, English. Also, the aeronautics folks may get some utility out of this--although I have to confess that the pilot-by-exam approach makes me a little nervous!

I created a customized version of this list for Excelsior College students and have attached it as an Excel spreadsheet.

What I did was find each Ohio University exam that was listed in the Excelsior course catalog and then verify each one on the Ohio U site. Upper level courses are highlighted in yellow.

Making the list was tricky because some exams are not actually listed on the Ohio U site, or are course-only, so I put those under a special heading. I also included a list of exams that Excelsior does not list, in case someone could use one of those and wants to petition Excelsior to accept it.

Do note that Ohio U uses the quarter system, so a 4 quarter unit course translates to 2.67 semester units. It would be nice if EC would round that off (based on my experience with the quarter system, it is likely to cover the same content as a semester) but their catalog lists 4 unit Ohio U courses at 2.67 semester hours. So, be aware of that before pursuing any exam.

What I like about the Ohio U exams are that they expand the number of upper level options for those of us who prefer to study alone and test out. There are more literature, history, and some business classes that are U/L.

I hope this helps! Oh, and yes, I am obsessive-compulsive. Why do you ask?

Let's see, I'm just starting out on this particular journey, so...we'll find out, won't we? hilarious

To date it has only been a plus in intellectual pursuits, because I learn very quickly as I compile data. But in relationships or art-making? Well, maybe it's not always such a fabulous character trait. I know, hard to imagine, but really! Wink

The Business Communication I exam can be helpful for TESC Business students (one course less to take).

I think that brings down the number of courses required for a business degree at TESC to two or one:

Managerial Accounting
Operations Management (unless one wants to risk taking their notoriously difficult exam)

Everything else can be tested out at TESC.

I think the list should be added to the stickied resources.

Thanks for sharing.
