Well I got my transcript evaluation back and was only awarded 28 credits so the fact that you had a degree already must have been crucial.

:/ I could try and get an ASBA from TESU but I might be too late for that. Anyway maybe it's not meant to be.

Side note they did accept all of my Aleks courses, ed4credit management information systems as Business of IT, SL organizational behavioral.

Anyway JSD thanks for all the advice. The program does look great. Just not in the mood to study for the Gen eds.

You can always take the Gen Ed's through CLEP/DSST/SL/Ed4Credit, etc. They accept a lot of ACE stuff.

If anyone is in the same boat as I am with a lifetime A+ or Network+ (Or Security+ which I don't have) and wants to look into this course, you'll have to get the certification updated (must be current within I think 5 years for WGU), I found this: https://certification.comptia.org/help/c...d-for-life

Basically, I can re-take the A+ and Net+ tests and they will show current, but you also keep your "Good For Life" certification. That means that I don't have to keep taking A+, Net+ and a CCNP level test every few years to keep them all, just keep the Cisco one current is enough for me. Once your new A+ and Net+ expire, you still have a valid GFL for them.

Another 4 CUs completed tonight!

I passed the first (of two) exams for Linux+/LPIC-1 certification (each exam is its own WGU course). 720/800 (500 passing). I spent about a month preparing for this one, because everything I saw on it said it was a very difficult exam and that it has a low pass rate due to people underestimating it.

It ended up being the easiest of the CompTIA exams I've taking so far (Sec+, Net+, two-parter for A+).

The questions were straight forward and you didn't have to decipher what was being asked. With the other CompTIA exams, some questions seemed like they were written in English, translated to another language poorly with online translation software, then translated back to English. But this exam was great! Things like "Which command option does x?" "In what directory would you find y" No weird word games.

I wish I would have known this beforehand, I wouldn't have been so nervous to schedule the exam. I sort of over-studied and stalled due to anxiety.

Onward to part 2! Hopefully I can get this one in a little quicker knowing what I know now!

Was the material covered sort of convoluted? I know a few Linux admins at my local CC who swear that the Linux+ / LPIC-1 is irrelevant to the field.

A better question is this: What materials did you use? Did you use the course through WGU, the OCG / Sybex guides , and/or something else?

it's not going to make you a linux sysadmin by any means, but it covers a mix of some good-to-know basics you'd want for regular linux use and some advanced but obscure stuff that's not really necessary to know off the top of your head because any user or admin would just look it up as needed. I haven't looked at the 2nd exam stuff yet but it's probably more of the same. It's like most certs... it's a good foundation but doesn't mean much without real world experience to back it up.

Okay some quick follow-up after skinming through some of the second exam material -- there's some pretty outdated stuff here, such as some info relating to x11/xhost stuff that was interesting maybe 15 years ago but useless today.

Doesn't seem like much of it, but weird that it's there.

Another 4 CUs down. Took two weeks since passing part one, I tried not to slack as much this time. Like the first exam, this one was very refreshing and straightforward. Focused on a lot of things that had nothing to do with the linux OS itself (like a ton of networking concepts that were more appropriate for Network+ and a lot of basic SQL questions), but I won't complain!

I passed this quicker than my mentor was expecting I think, so I don't even have my next course "officially" lined up. I could give him a call, but I have a call scheduled with him on weds morning so I'll just wait. An extra day won't kill me and I'll take a peak at the material I assume he wants me to tackle next.

At least most of the certifications are desirable. The software development program has awful certifications: three CIW certifications related to web development and we already know how worthless those are, COMPTIA A+ and it doesn't seem relevant to the goals of the program, and COMPTIA Project +.
