Failed Clep Exam by one point
#1
I decided to take the human growth and development CLEP exam to renew sub certification. I studied made index cards but felt like maybe I could have studied a few more weeks before taking it but didn't. I took the exam feeling confident that I would pass but failed by 1 Point.

I find it extremely odd that's so many people fail by one point when I searched the term "failed by 1 point" in Google search engine. I am wondering if it's possible to get a copy of the exam that I took in 2016 so that I can check the answers?

Not only that I bought the clep exam book off of the website where I purchase the exam and it wasn't even a full book. It was only about maybe 30 pages with index cards that you could cut out in the back of it. I studied that guide and I searched YouTube for a few videos related to the topic because the website suggests about 12 different text books, literally.

I also noticed that half the CLEP exam of what questions on information I had not seen in the book I had purchased. I went on to study for dsst exams and I was not surprised when I realize half the information that I studied was not on the exam.Has anyone else experienced the same issue?

CLEP and DSST exams are not based off of a certain textbook. They're general in nature, meaning that anyone who read any book on the subject might be able to pass the exam.

Also, some of the exams have been updated, so not all prep materials will cover new exam material.

Hi. I failed by 3pts! I too had the same experiences. purchased the book online, only one section attributed to HG&D. nothing I studied for was on the exam. So I was super surprised to have gotten those many pts being non of the questions rang a bell to what I had studied for for 6wks. I too went to youtube and other online sites to prepare.

studying now to prepare to take the exam again. going to try to take dsst. Hopefully 2nd time is a charm. Know you're not alone.

Best of luck to you.

I began taking CLEP exams when I was fourteen. My mom signed me and my brother up for College Plus and at that time all they told us during every one of our "Coaching calls" was "Read the college board clep book, and use other recourses like wikipedia, and don't drink too much soda before your exam". We had a horrible time with CLEPS, we would study for months and still only MAYBE pass. Later I learned that those books are just about the worst way to prepare for a clip exam. I started using other recourses to study and I have never failed one since, and I have taken almost all of them only studying 1 week. Business law I think was the only one that took me 3 weeks but I passed that easily after 3 weeks. Some resources that helped me really well to study for CLEPS are the Instantcert flashcards, speedy prep flashcards, study.com videos and quizzes, and jump course.

I almost gave up on testing by exam after my first few experiences went so badly but I'm so glad I didn't give up because I'm almost finished with my degree and I've only been at it for a year after finding those good recourses! Don't give up! Good luck.

Not sure if you have taken and passed Introductory Psych CLEP, but that's what I did and then went and took Human Growth and Dev. I just managed to squeak by on HG&D with a 51 after getting a 61 on the Psych test. Mind you my studying for HG&D was minimal but I managed it. All the exams I have passed to date have been done in the same manner (but not same time frame). I would get the REA guide study that and supplement with YouTube videos for any concepts I needed extra or more clarification on. So far CLEPs seem to be very manageable, although I tanked the A&I Lit CLEP with a 48.

I failed the Chem CLEP last year by 1 point, as well. I never had a CLEP before, so it was entirely new to me. I used study.com to study for the entire thing, and it honestly did not serve me well. While I passed all 120 quizzes, and watched all 120 videos (yikes!), it did not prepare me for what a CLEP was actually like.

I just passed Straighterline's Chem 1, and will pass their Chem 1 Lab soon. While a CLEP would have made things swifter to transfer, this can work as well, if taken w/ Chem 2 online elsewhere. And this is where CLEP fails and other ways win. They win because the exams are broken down into concept groups. A CLEP is everything at once, in random, with an extreme time limit. Gaming the exam and preparing yourself to answer equations within 1min 12sec is absolute. So don't feel bad for failing by 1 point. It can be re-done in some months down the road, and with a better feel of how the exam will go.
