If you live in Tennessee there is a very good chance tuition-free community college for adults is coming soon. If this act passes as anticipated, all TN adult citizens without a degree will be eligible. (Paid for through lottery money and federal grants)
I think it is great. Many jobs that are trained for at community colleges don't immediately earn very much. I'm think of associate degrees or certificates in hospitality, office administration, veterinary technician, early childhood, etc...People shouldn't have to go in debt only to then earn $11-$12/hr starting out.
Yet many do because they earn too much to qualify for assistance and yet not enough to pay out of pocket. Even if you work a job that is paying okay but ultimately has little room for advancement (waiting tables for instance) you may want to further your education. I hope more states adopt something like this!
