TESC vs Excelsior

joel66 Wrote:I was told the "MATH 342 Modern Business Mathematics" would satisfy the upper division credit. I'm debating that, or taking the CLEP College Algebra to satisfy it. Have to weight my options once I get there. As for upper division credits, I was told I just need 2 more. For some reason, I thought one of those classes would fit the requirement. I'll need to find two unit course or something less stressful to take. lol

Hi Again Joe,

The MATH 342 course may well be classified as upper level business credit. If so, that is awesome and it can count towards one of your UL electives. What you need to ensure though, is that you fulfill the "pre-calculus or above" requirement with one of your math courses. I'm not sure that any Business Math course would do so (even if it is upper level). I could be wrong of course, but I would double check on that before committing, okay?

Obviously, we only have a list of what you INTEND to take. We don't know which classes you have already passed. So that would explain why you have been told you only need two more upper level business electives.

One alternative option that I see from your list is the DANTES Organizational Behaviour exam. This only counts as lower level credit. However, if you were to take the ECE Organizational Behaviour exam instead, it would count towards your 12 UL Business requirements.

The reason I would dump Geometry from your list is that it isn't usually required even int he most exacting Business program. You will be more likely to find a stipulation requiring Trigonometry than Geometry. Excelsior doesn't require Trig, but I know that TESC does. So that's something to think about too.

Hope that helps,

I know when I spoke with Excelsior, they said "MATH 340 Calculus for Business and Economics" would be considered Math at level of precalculus or above for Arts & Sciences. I need to double check on Math 342 because both are same level at ARC and for their requirements it says Math 340 or Math 342. I really don't know the difference between the two:

*****
MATH 340 Calculus for Business and Economics
Description: This course is an introduction to differential and integral calculus with applications in the fields of business, economics, social science and biological science. It is not recommended for mathematics and physical science majors.

MATH 342 Modern Business Mathematics
Description: This course is designed around applications of mathematics in economic and business contexts. Specific topics include functions and related business formulas, tables and graphs, finance (interest and exponential models in economics), rates of change including applications and optimization, and linear programming.
*****

I guess the only reason why I thought about Geometry is that it's on the GMAT test. Not sure if I'm going overboard on taking a 5.0 unit course just to prepare me on the math portion of GMAT if I haven't taken Geometry. I really don't care of math. I just want to get prepared for the test

On ECE Organizational Behavior, I thought about that when I was driving home from work. I could possibly take that, and take an easy CLEP/DSST to satisfy my Arts & Sciences. I don't know if anybody else has taken Human Behavior in Organizations from LSU. I would need to check with Excelsior and see if that would work.

I also noticed under LSU's site, they have Introduction to Operations Management. That one is 229 dollars. Either that or Colorado State University's

I basically need 33 Arts & Sciences units and 23 Business Component (2.0 left for upper division) much of those course I already took were Business Law

Basically looking at the following for Arts & Sciences
5.0 Math 100 Elementary Algebra - American River College self pace program
5.0 Math 120 Intermediate Algebra - ARC's self pace program
3.0 Statistics - 6 week online program at ARC
3.0 MATH 342 Modern Business Mathematics at ARC or MATH 340 Calculus for Business and Economics
3.0 Ethics in America - DSST - okay under Arts & Sciences by Excelsior
3.0 Microeconomics - undecided on either CLEP or ARC online class
3.0 Macroeconomics - undecided on either CLEP or ARC online class
3.0 US History I - CLEP
3.0 US History II - CLEP
3.0 need to find easy CLEP

Business Component
3.0 Financial Accounting - undecided on either CLEP or ARC online 4.0 unit class
3.0 Managerial Accounting - no choice now, ARC online 4.0 unit class
3.0 Principles of Management - CLEP test
3.0 Principles of Marketing - CLEP test
3.0 Financial Management - DSST test
3.0 Production/Operations Management - Colorado State University
3.0 Business Policy - Excelsior class
3.0 Organizational Behavior - Excelsior class or LSU MGT 4620 - Human Behavior in Organizations

I did not get a math credit for my business math course it counted as an elective only. Mine was a lower level course, you should get clarification before you take the course to be certain you get the credit where you need to.

EC offers a variety of scholarships such as the "Presidential Scholarship" that all EC students can apply for. I simply wrote a letter and BANG I got one.
