Admissions Decision???
#1
Hi everyone,
I am wondering if you can share your experiences on how long you waited for an offer of admissions.
I applied to University of Mount Olive on 2/1. Still waiting for a decision. The deadline for Summer 2016 is 4/22. Is it wrong for me to expect an early admissions decision?

Also, I inquired about the online MBA program offered at the University of NC @ Chapel Hill - I stopped listening to the advisor after he said the program cost was 100k.:ack:
When I researched online the program cost said about 26k.

I guess I am back on the search for a more affordable online MBA program

You'll probably get a better answer from the school as to when they make admission decisions. In my own limited experience, I've applied to three nursing grad schools and didn't get a decision letter until after the application deadline had passed.

I applied to grad school in March 2015 for the Fall 2015 cohort at a regional state university and did not receive an acceptance letter until July. Although the program in which I'm enrolled seems to accept all grad school applicants who meet the minimum requirements, my acceptance was conditional because the registrar was still waiting on a transcript that was slow to arrive.

omg...I suppose I had high expectations for an early decision. lol My GPA is 3.83 right now. In week 5 of 10 - capstone course- Although I was finished all of the work required through week 7. Lucky me, I am the only student in the course so the instructor has graded all but 2 of my early assignments.

the wait is giving me anxiety. so much so that I have applied and been accepted into Keller Graduate School of Management (Devry) just an an option in case I have to start there and transfer. My goal is to be enrolled in graduate school summer 2016,:nopity:

If you're looking for an affordable MBA, you can probably find much better than a $40k MBA from DeVry.

Yep...there are MBA options that are more affordable and reputable than DeVry. Wayne State College (not to be confused with Wayne State University) offers a totally online MBA for $281 per credit hour. You can earn the degree from Wayne State for less than $10,000 total with the solid reputation of a regional state college. Also look into Peru State College's online MBA. The last time I looked, it cost less than $300 per credit.

Another cheap MBA option is Amberton University. There's also Eastern New Mexico University's MBA program which costs $235/credit.

thanks everyone for your feedback and suggestions.
I think I am too caught up on how a degree from XYZ University would be perceived by current/future employers. When I interviewed for the position I have now, the plant manager saw Kaplan University on my resume and referred to it as "one of those online schools". I was actually offended by this! So I figured if I obtained my MBA from a well known university it would remove some of the stigma? Is it logic to think that? I live in a small town in NC. Schools like Barton College, ECU and UNC are the most commonly known and recognized institutions. I have looked into these and they are not as flexible or affordable as I would like. Any feedback on this?

I really appreciate everyone's perspective. Smile

I requested a status update a week ago with no reply yet. I also noticed that the contact person for the program has changed since I applied. Not feeling so confident about an early decision. It is very likely I won't hear back until the deadline has passed.

There are a TON of MBA programs that can be done part-time or online from reputable schools. Some are expensive (like MBA@UNC), some are cheaper, and some are very cheap. I highly recommend that if you are seeking an MBA, that you first try and find one that is AACSB accredited. If you can't find one affordable or accessible, then consider the other accreditations. You can find some int the 20k range.

Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.

Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.

Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.

Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.

Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.
